My dad is in his 80s. He writes beautiful calligraphy on red fans. So, for all my professional life, I have always turned to him to write my colleagues’ names in Chinese whenever I need to give someone a farewell gift or a token of appreciation. I never really wanted to learn calligraphy, though. Just not my thing. But I’m quite envious of him - this is surely the means in which he contributes to the earth.
Just now, I was showering my baby when inspiration struck me. I wrote a haiku for my departing colleague within minutes. In fact, I posted it here: #522866. I have had a haiku published in the national daily before. An epiphany struck me. Maybe this is my song from my soul, my contribution to this earth. I don’t need to be envious of my dad. I just need to find my way; I’m in my 40s haha
