It is Saturday, thus it is poll day!
The NBA draft lottery takes place tomorrow at 3pm est. The lottery is used to determine the drafting order of the first four picks in the upcoming 2024 NBA by luck of the draw. All 14 teams that missed the playoffs this year are entered into the draft lottery, however, the number of lottery balls for each team is determined by their proximity to the bottom of the standings, so the worst team in the league has a much better chance of winning the lottery than the last team to miss the playoffs.
Here are odds for each team to win the lottery:
Detroit 14.0% Washington 14.0% Charlotte 13.3% Portland 13.2% San Antonio 10.5% Toronto 9.0% Memphis 7.5% Utah 6.0% Brooklyn 4.5% Atlanta 3.0% Chicago 2.0% Houston 1.5% Sacramento 0.8% Golden State 0.7%
Who is doing to win the draft lottery? (Can only fit 10 options so added other (comment) for anyone who wants to pick the bottom 5.

Luka’s taking one hell of a beating today.
reply
He did. He also got a lot of calls.
reply
I'm not sure if he can survive a full series in the Dorture Chamber.
reply
Celtics hitting some ridiculous shots and Cavs have missed about 5 layups. Cavs will take game 4.
reply
Mitchell with another great performance, but he needs some help.
reply
Yes and need better rebounding.
reply
Toronto because the North is awesome.

Tough loss last night for the Canucks.
reply
They had it coming. Oilers completely outplayed them in the third; had 15 shots on goal vs the 2 SOG from the Canucks. If it wasn't for Silovs playing on his head, game wouldn't have gone to overtime.
Canucks need to be more aggressive and do a better job at keeping McDavid in check. They were just letting him roam free last night; probably scared of that power play so they're not hitting him hard nor checking him tight. But if they continue to play like this, they won't win the series. McDavid is too good and needs to be kept in checked at all times.

I took the Spurs, based on Elon's theory that the most entertaining option is the most likely.
Can you imagine the conspiracy mongering if they get back-to-back 1st's?
reply
Which scenario is more likely:
a) Nuggets are back on track. Figured out how to crack Minny's D and are going to win the next 3 games.
b) TWolves had a really bad night on both sides of the ball and the Nuggets had a hot shooting night. TWolves will bounce back and win the next 2.
c) Series will be a war from here on out and go 7.
reply
Now that we've seen Denver actually manage to play basketball against the TWolves, I think they'll likely be able to figure it out again.
From most to least likely, then: c) a) b)
I still think Joker is the best player in the world and over a long enough duration he'll figure out how to beat any defense.
If we stipulate the series going at least 6 games, who do you think is most likely to win?
reply
If it goes 6 my guess is Twolves. 7 Nuggets.
reply
They might also get the Raptors pick. I think the Raps have 45% odds of keeping their pick. When I did 100 simulations of the draft lottery I believe the Raptors kept their pick 48 times.
reply
I have chosen Washington. Though I don't know too much about NBA. Just selected it because it is beautiful state.
reply
Hate to break it to you but the Washington team is located in Washington D.C not in Washington state but a good pick regardless.
reply
Ouch! I thought I knew that Washington DC is called DC but here they named it without DC! How? I don't understand.
reply
It's actually "Washington, DC," with DC being the District of Columbia, so it's like "San Antonio, Texas," where Texas is the state. So no team lists both a city and a state in their names.
reply
Ahh! Ok. Now I get it. I'm not an American but I think the whole world is my place. So, I love to explore
reply
Come to think of it, I don't think any NBA franchise (with the exception of the Warriors) is named after a state, right? They're all named after the city if I'm not mistaken.
NHL has several teams named after the state. I believed they are Panthers, Avalanche, Devils, Hurricanes, and Wild. Also the Coyotes went from Phoenix Coyotes to Arizona Coyotes several years ago.
Edit: I just realize the Timberwolves are also named after the state.

If you scroll up to look at the list of poll options, you'll see another example. :-)

Ah that's right, Jazz. I was just in Utah last Spring visiting its beautiful national parks. Can't believe I missed that one.
reply
Pacers, TWolves, Jazz Warriors?
reply
Better explanation than I would have given.
