Kind of amused at what got autofilled in the title, as the headline of the actual piece is: "Defeating Mouse Lint: The rise of the optical mouse, a device so good at its job that it effectively killed off the rubber ball, and the sometimes questionable people who invented it."
Either way, an entertaining and much deeper dive into the history of mice and other input devices than I'd expected.
Ah...the joys of mechanical mice. Still have a few laying around...actually using one today to offload some old photos from a Pentium II

Does anyone remember when there was a ball, and you had to clean the little scrolls? They would collect dust and grit?
