Striking Oil
The Edmonton Oilers (sorry @gnilma) are 7 wins away from bringing the Stanley Cup back to Canada. They secured a double OT victory to take game one on the road against a very good, well rested Dallas Stars team. Promising, though it is only one game. Edmonton has been waiting for years for their assembly line of young stars they have had to bear playoff fruit and it finally seems to be producing.
I am not as much of a hockey fan as I used to be when I was younger. Years of Leafs fandom stole that joy from me. However, a good old fashioned multi OT playoff hockey game is some of the best of what sport can offer. It reminds me of being a kid and struggling to stay awake way past my bed time to watch an intense battle that goes into double or triple OT. Most times I fell asleep during commercials or intermission and woke up dismayed I had missed the ending and curious who had won. Fond memories.
On the basketball side of things. I am starting to think my thesis on the inevitable Boston Celtics playoff choke is very wrong. That is one well rounded team that does everything well. Can we have at least one decade where Boston doesn't get to celebrate multiple championships? Boston might be the only city where I dislike all of their major sports teams (unless the Bruins are playing the Leafs or the Red Sox are playing the Yankees- then I set aside my disdain for the greater good)
MLB Survivor pool week 9 pick post coming up shortly from @MLBofficialscorer.
Sats for all, GR
I don't think Porzingas is coming back for the Celtics, but with Haliburton injured again they should have plenty to breeze through the ECF.
Whoever comes out of the West will be a major challenge for them, though.

Mcdavid should never be left alone in front of the net

He is so strong. He finds his way there. Last night on one rush he was skating with the puck along the boards and two players tried to hold him up he just bull rushed right through them and held onto the puck.

He is the best player in the world for a reason, it's not just the skill level which is crazy but the speed at which he does everything. I'm just saying in double OT if you're Dallas you may want to put a guy closer to him than Houston.

Fair point. I thought the Oilers were toast at the beginning of the first OT when he got that high sticking double minor. Oilers goalie bailed him out there.
Dallas goalie was really good too. He made some great saves in first OT.

Triple overtime? Meh. Give me the quad-OT Easter Epic any day!
(By "any day," I mean the '80s, when I was young enough to be able to actually stay up that late with few regrets.)
The '90s were free of Boston championships, fwiw.

I definitely fell asleep during that game. I remember talking about it with my dad the following day. I was watching in my room and he was watching in the living room. If I recall correctly, he didn't make it until the end either and fell asleep on the couch.
Further proof that the 90s were the greatest decade!

No need to be sorry. The Oilers beat us fair and square, even though we put up a good fight. I wish the Oilers luck in bringing the cup back to Canada. I would love to see the cup back in Canada after so many years of drought.
Speaking of OT, I will never forget round 1 game 1 of the 2007 Stanley Cup playoffs, where Canucks and Stars needed 4OT to settle things. Henrik Sedin scored on a pass from his brother Daniel to beat the Stars 5-4 late in 4OT. I think the game lasted till past midnight or something, and I was alone in the living room tired and trying to stay awake. Also tried not to make a scream when the puck went in, and stuck to just jumping up and down. I think Luongo made over 70 saves in that game. Crazy game.
Celtics' path to the finals (I'm assuming they will beat the Pacers with ease now) had been quite straight forward without much challenges. I'm thinking whoever they face coming out of the west will also be too tired and beat up trying to get to the finals that the Celtics might bag the championship without too much challenge also. Just a random thought, and might be a bad take. We shall see in June.

That was an incredible game.
I am hopeful whoever wins the West at least gives the Celtics enough difficulty they might implode on themselves.

Dallas wins another game on the road, 2-0

Minny can't win without Ant Man being elite. KAT is the invisible man.

I just want to commend you on your dedication to making these daily posts

Thanks. I appreciate it. Streak might be ending soon though. My wife has major surgery in early June and will be laid out for about 4 weeks. I will have a lot of stuff to do to help her out and manage the kiddos during that time, especially the first few days after surgery. I am going to aim to keep up the daily post and will still be on SN but not going to sweat it if I miss a day here and there. Family first.
