I'm always fascinated by learning about new subgenres (especially ones that come from other countries), even if this one feels like it might not be my cup of tea. Most of the contemporary literature in translation I read is crime stuff, but I really should check out some other subgenres.

What do you recommend in the crime genre that was released recently?

I really enjoyed Cory Doctorow's The Bezzle and Tana French's The Hunter. If you mean translated stuff, I'm always up for a new Harry Hole book from Jo Nesbo, and Killing Moon was really good.

Just trying to cultivate some ideas for what to get my dad for Father's Day and then his birthday shortly after. He likes the crime genre but I thought it might be nice to get something a little different. I bought that baseball book you recommended for him.
