This year's Champions League Final will be kicking off very soon.
I'm actually quite excited for this fixture from a tactical perspective. Madrid will be coming into this fixture as the clear favorite with them having arguably the best attacking trio in the world right now in Vinicius, Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham. And they have a very experienced manager in Carlo Ancelotti who has won this tournament 4 times already.
Dortmund on the other hand has surprised everyone this year by making it all the way to the Final. However, watching the way they masterfully contained the attacking cannons of PSG in the semis, and their unity, organization, and spirit as a team shows they are well deserving of being in the Final, and I don't think we should write them off.
Ancelotti allows for his players on attack to be free and as creative as possible, so it will be interesting to see this battle between freedom to play versus disciplined and very well structured defense of Dortmund. If Dortmund are able to contain the likes of Vinicius, Rodrygo, and Bellingham, there will be plenty of moments for them to break on the counter attack.
All around this will be a game you will not be able to take your eyes off of. But I am particularly interested in how Tony Kroos looks to control the game as well as how Dortmund opt to defend him, whether they press him or allow him to be on the ball and instead focus on pressing the player he passes it to. And for Dortmund, every player will have to have the game of their lives, but I will be watching what sort of positions Marcel Sabitzer takes up, as I think he could be the key especially in attack but also on defense. In my opinion, I'm hoping to see him as an 8 (center midfielder) instead of a 6 (defensive midfielder) because I feel he offers a lot more to the team when he plays as an 8.
But if you want pure excitement when watching this game, I recommend watching for Madrid their attacking trio, Vinicius, Rodrygo, and Bellingham. And for Dortmund, Jaden Sancho, and Adeyemi with their immense skill and amazing pace on the wings.
I have Madrid winning this year's Final. But if Dortmund can negate Madrid's attack and be clinical on the counter, they definitely have the opportunity to clinch it with an upset.
