Howdy evryone, it was a sensational start to the world cup and USA really turned it around in a matter of few balls!

Now we are here to discuss about the love proceedings for Match no. 2. I've chosen my role to be the commentator providing live updates not only this match but for every match.

When: Sunday, June 2, 2024, 10:30 AM (Local)/ 20:00 PM (IST)/ 14:30 AM (GMT)

Where: Providence Stadium, Guyana

What to expect:What to expect:

A slowish surface, the highest total posted at the venue in international cricket in the last 13 years has been 169 for 5. There is a possibility of passing showers and some cloud cover. But will mostly remain sunny.

Head to head:

The two teams have never played a T20I against each other.

Toss: West Indies have won the toss and have opted to field.

How is it looking? After my Canadian team suffered defeat, I can nay afford another loss. Need WI to pull this one out for me.

reply

If you lose here, all will lose. Noone has predicted a PNG win.

reply

Yes, but I already have one loss so if they lose I will be on the verge of defeat after only 2 games. Haha

reply

You should search a little about the teams and their history before predicting. If you're not familiar with cricket or have not much experience then its like playing darts in the dark. There will be matches when most obvious teams you think are going to win might lose against smaller teams who have done well in world cups before. There's always upsets, you just got to be vigilant.

reply

Good points but I wasn't going to go against Canada against the US regardless if they were likely to lose.

reply

I can understand lol. You could wish Canada to win the world cup but you can't ignore the facts that they're not there yet.. Wishing is one thing and predicting a game is another. Anyways goodluck for the upcoming matches. 👍

reply

I didn't think they would win the world cup. I just wished for them to beat our rival the USA

reply

Yeah I got that. It's not just you, even I wish that every other team in the World Cup beats them by huge margins. 😁

No problem, you can always join the pool once again just by zapping the pool for a 10% of the total pool prize on the day you rejoin. In starting it will be negligible, so it's better you lose early... Hahah

reply

WI is an unpredictable side but when it comes to major tournament especially T20i World Cup, you can count on them to do well. They excell in T20 cricket, it suits their nature.

reply

You're right. They have been downhill only in other formats lately.

reply

That too is because of so much t20 league cricket all over the world. Short formats, fast cricket, and more money. Players prefer to play in those leagues over International odi or test cricket.

reply

Unpredictable… but not dangerously so from your point of view

reply

After 4 oversAfter 4 overs

As expected it's a slowish surface. The ball isn't coming nicely onto the bat and PNG has already lost 2 wicket for 15 runs only.

PNG are some dwarfs in front of West Indian giants!!!

reply

Ouch. Closer than it should have been…

reply

WI gave us all a scare in the middle phase but thanks to Roston Chase unbeaten 42, they recovered well and in style to a winning start to their World Cup journey. 👌👏

reply

In my opinion, Wi will win by 8 wickets. And will finish this game at 15 overs.

reply

Wai are 3 down, and 15 over chase also looking unlikely. 👀

reply

@MANI is saying that WI will win it a couple of overs before. I'm also with @MANI.

IMO, WI can only chase it down in 18th or 19th over.

reply

131/8 -19.4 over

reply

99/6 - 17 over

reply
reply

WI fancy a short chase then….

reply

It can be tricky though as the pitch is very slow. It will become slower and slower. If PNG can score 130+, they can present a challenge.

reply

I don't think so. Yes pitch is slow but that is how most of the Caribbean pitches are. And if WI play like they play, this 130(ish) target will look like a kid's play to them. They'll finish this game as quickly as possible as I don't see any demons in this pitch.

reply

I’m with you. Expecting some slogging

reply

If they want to send a message to the rest of the teams, this is the game. 137 at home ground against PNG's bowling attack will be no threat.

reply

Let's wait and watch!!

reply

How many overs do you think they'll need to chase this down? I say 16-17.

reply

WI superpower is the heavy hitters though. And they have a good Captain half-way down the batting order.

reply

Yes you're right. But WI aren't a team that they used to be. There's no other team in Cricket that has seen such a constant decline in their reputation.

However, T20 is very different from other formats. The shorter the format, the more unpredictable it gets and the more fun it becomes for spectators!

reply

We will see…. I think they have enough residual talent.

reply

Can anyone predict the winning ball for west Indies? I will happily zap him 200 sats.

reply

14.5 over

reply

I think 16.4 overs.

reply

My prediction is at 18.5.

reply

You missed it by just 1 ball. 😲👏

Phew that wasn't nearly as comfortable for West Indies as you would've thought. PNG gave them a proper run for their money, and at one point there would've been some jitters as the rate touched 12 with half the side gone.

reply

PNG took the game to the final over and it was closer than we all thought. Some good bowling and catching from PNG to make an interesting finish to the game.

reply

Update:Update:

Wi now need 10 runs every over!

reply

As long as Andre Russell is there, WI are safe.

reply

My Gosh! What's happening there! WI has been sluggish just like the pitch!

reply

They're not adapting to the pitch and bowling. If its not coming onto the bat, stop slogging but WI being WI, going gung-ho!

reply

WI are going hard as we expected but they're not connecting. Variable bounce and pace of the pitch and some good seam bowling have forced them to some slogs.

reply

According to the on-air comms, this rain doesn't look threatening. It is bright as well on the horizon. The covers are on at the moment. I would love to see PNG fight....

reply

Who knows, we can all make predictions and if luck is on their side and this could all go south for WI if they panicked or overthink about the chase. 😂

reply

WI need 137 from 20 overs. I think they'll chase this down easily with couple of overs to spare.

reply

Update: Doriga is playing a great little cameo here. Already taken PNG past of psychological 130. They now have total to pose a challenge. At least their bowler have something to defend.

It's Alzarri Joseph again and Sese Bau is out after making a diligent half century.

PNG has lost the plot here in last 2 overs. Just scored five runs and lost the wicket of Sese.

Huge! Assad Vala is out!!

He hit two 4s on Alzarri Joseph but the vengeance from Alzarri has done it for Vala.

reply

Asad Vala is a key batsmen and he has hit a fabulous six on the first ball of fifth over. They are accelerating now.

26/2 after five overs.
