Howdy Stackers!!!
It was a nail biterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr in the evening! Wasn't it? We all witnessed a fabulous show of how much it's lively until the last bowl is bowled. Cricket is such a game and it thrives on such moments as Oman created and Namibia replied in the super over.
It hasn't taken long for the T20 World Cup to find its stride with three nicely fought games so far, the third of which went into a Super Over between Oman and Namibia a few hours ago. But now it's time for two full member nations to go head to head for the first time in this tournament. Sri Lanka take on South Africa to kick off the action in Group D today as the Nassau County International stadium gears up for its first international contest in New York.

Toss Update -

Sri Lanka have won the toss and have opted to bat

pitch Report -

Who knows? It's an almost brand new drop-in pitch that started life in Adelaide and was completed near Palm Beach in Florida before being transported to New York. Some deliveries in the warm-up game between India and Bangladesh stayed low, others bounced or seamed. Only one half-century was scored and nine of the 16 bowlers used were able to get away with conceding fewer than eight runs an over.

Preview -

These are two teams who haven't really made a mark in the T20 World Cup in the last few editions. They also have very different strong points compared to each other, with Sri Lanka most likely to rely on a quality bowling attack in contrast to South Africa boasting of some enviable firepower with the bat. South Africa might've lost 0-3 to West Indies recently, but the addition of the likes of Heinrich Klaasen, Tristan Stubbs, and a few others from IPL is likely to make a big difference to their setup. However, will they be able to express themselves on pitches that may not be very favourable for strokeplay? We'll have to wait and see how the drop-in pitch behaves today. There was a warm-up game between India and Bangladesh at this venue, and that pitch wasn't straightforward for batting at all.
Thanks and hope this match takes it to another level...
If SA have refined their approach and if Klaasen gets his eye in… certainly going to be unpredictable!

Your prediction for an oman win got wrong! I can't be bias, but I want you stay there till the last game. Best of luck for the rest of the game !
reply
I'll follow along even if I'm eliminated.
reply
Why? You can always re-enter.
reply
I didn't know that. I'll follow the herd

Everyone’s prediction for Oman was wrong!

If Klassen gets his eye in, it won't be unpredictable. It would be game over for SL.😁
reply
Well, here’s hoping. Our host won’t let me forget it otherwise.

Will depend on conditions and how will pitch react to spin. SL have quality spinners, and if it starts spinning sideways, it'll be tough for SA batsmen.
reply
SL National Anthem is a cheery number!

Great update! By the end of the tournament I might even have a sense of what's going on.
reply
You already have a lot of sense regarding predictions. You've chosen SL over SA for this match right? Great pich considering most stackers have gone with SA.
Good Luck!!

Not a bad choice going with SL but considering the recent results, SA is heavily favourites.

LOL you'll love it if & once you start understanding what Crocket is all about and how it is played.

I'm looking forward to it.

Here we go. Namibia snuck out the victory in the super over and I am back on track after Canada let me down. Need a South Africa victory today.

Yeah! Great win by Namibia! A low scoring thriller there. SA vs SL is a different kind of game. It is hoing to be SA's fast bowling vs SL's spin. Exciting game! A trickier game to predict but I have gone with recent past results which favor SA.
reply
I wouldn’t want to call it yet…
reply
Definitely not calling anything especially after watching Canada lose what seemed an insurmountable lead and Namibia barely force super over on what seemed like an easy score to beat.

That's the beauty of cricket you know. You can't predict what's going to happen next. Everything changes so fast. Exciting to watch!

Yes. I am learning this quickly.

South Africa all over Sri Lanka atm. SL are 32-4 after 8.3 overs.
Difficult pitch or reckless cricket from SL? What do you think?
reply
They are playing like kids now!
Yes, pitch is also difficult but from international cricketers it's not acceptable at all.

True. I can't even describe what they're doing lol.

#Update- SA require only 31 in 60 balls with 8 wickets in hands. Shoud be an easy chase now?

Yes, and so down that SA require only 3 runs to win in 4 overs!

Yep!! This match became boring once SL couldn't score in access of 100 runs.
But this also teaches our newbies into cricket that how important is the role of pitches while deciding outcomes in Cricket ...

You can't really judge the chasing teams if/when they're chasing a low total you know. Sometimes, they just play cautious to access the conditions more closely, or spend some time in the middle.

I would love to know what's the hurry. Why are they in such a rush that they're throwing away their wickets.
reply
The are rusty, may be, they haven't prepared well for the WC.

True. One after another getting out attempting to play big shot instead play along, build up a partnership till 16-17th over and then see where things are but they seem to be in a rush.

40-5 in 10 overs. Halfway through the first innings and this match is already seem one sided with SA's bowling proving to be too hot to handle for SL. 🔥
reply
As you've seen alredy is not over until the last over or sometimes super over. May be something inspiring is on the cards in last ten overs of SL innings!

Could be but conditions/pitch not suitable for T20 or hard hitting and they're already 6 down. Could be interesting if they can reach to 125-130 but seems unlikely.

SL is so slow! Their score isn't picking up at all! They look outcast from Cricket as of now!!

Only a few games in but these US pitches are proving to bea bit tricky. Not easy to play big shots. Will be interesting to see how bigger teams approach. 🤔

Udate: 6 down now!

However two most senior players foe SL are in the middle. Can they take SK to a respectable total?
