Howdy Cricket Lovers!!
The wait is finally over and the most anticipated match of the tournament is just about to begin. The weather in New York has just delayed the intensity a bit but it hasn't lowered it at all! Withe the high octane nature of this game, I would love see intesity in the comment box from all of you. Thanks for joining in the live Blog.
Here's a little contect to the game from the centre stge...
Not many spectacles can capture the imagination of nearly a billion people at the same time. An India vs Pakistan cricket match is one of those few things that unfailingly does so every single time. After all the anticipation and build-up, it is nearly time for cricket's greatest rivalry. A provisional venue in an unfamiliar country for cricket is at the centre-stage as another chapter of this great scuffle awaits to be filled in. Emotions, sentiments and ecstacy aside, there's still an important cricket match to be played. The last time these two sides met in a T20 World Cup was in that fabled game at Melbourne where Virat Kohli struck possibly the most famous six off Haris Rauf - "Kohli goes down the ground, Kohli goes out of the ground!", words that are undoubtedly etched in the minds of all Indian fans.
That was two years ago, so what do we have in store today? The ever mercurial side that they are, Pakistan come into this game having shown little promise. After suffering arguably what was their worst upset yet in World Cups at the hands of USA in their previous game, Pakistan are already under pressure to perform, the identity of the opposition notwithstanding, if they want to make it out of the group stage. And when that opponent is India, the pressure just manifolds. In that game against the USA, they looked scattered and dazed. Today, Pakistan have a lot more than their pride at stake and their fans will be hoping it helps bring out the best in them.

Toss Update -

Pakistan have won the toss and have opted to field

Pitch Report -

"The pitch is much better today," Ravi Shastri told Cricbuzz after conducting the toss for the Canada vs Ireland game on Friday. He was right - the match saw a much better balanced contest between bat and ball than in the recent past. As earlier reported by this website, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is making sure the match would not be a low-scoring farce because of the dangerous nature of the surface.
For the first time ever perhaps, the pitch has garnered more attention ahead of an India-Pakistan game. Typically, the focus would be on the intense rivalry, individual match-ups, and whether Pakistan can break the Indian stranglehold in World Cups. But with Pakistan's high voltage pace battery - featuring Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf - expected to be in action on Sunday, concerns about the pitch's behavior, or misbehaviour, are heightened.

I am listening that fans have occupied all of New York today....

They are saying it's bigger than Super Bowl???
reply
Traffic near the venue is apparently unbearable. Even Friday afternoon was terrible. It is a huge event in New York.
reply
What about Times Square? I'm listening that all of Asian communities have gathered to watch ch on the big screen there...
reply
reply
Yes, these kind of article emerge out of the suspense thriller that an Indo-Pak match is!! But, fans enjoy the match and I've never had any issues even watching it with more 100k people from both sides ..
reply
I don't know. I hope it's not a security problem.
reply
No, not a security problem. They hve gathered to watch the match peacefully
reply
I'm sure they have. I'm talking about outsiders who just want to make a statement. I hope the NYPD is vigilant
reply
There must be no issues!!! Cricket is a peaceful game and fans come out with loving gestures with a lot of heart.
reply
Good. New York could use more of that.

I think that’s a big difference between cricket & other sports. You just don’t get the security issues you get at other sports like football (soccer) & boxing.
reply
Big rivalry!
This is like Canada vs US in Olympic hockey.
reply
I think it's bigger. Canada and the US actually (somewhat) like each other off the ice.
reply
Definitely. We are lifelong friends aside from that little 1812 tiff. Not so much for India and Pakistan.

I would argue this is the biggest rivalry in cricket. India has population of well over a billion people. It’s a huge deal not only for the 2 countries but for the diaspora around the world.
reply
Its not just 22 players on the field bit almost 1.5 billion people play this game off the field..
reply
No sport rivalry ever comes close to the Pakistan vs India cricket rivalry.
reply
@siggy47 will be upset as his favourite Azam Khan has been dropped from the Pakistani side (and he probably landed with one-hell of a thud lol)
reply
An easy golden duck wicket for India dropped there.
reply
This is an outrage! I intend to file a formal complaint
reply
I suspect his father Moin Khan (and beloved cricketer) will already have done that.
reply
My new team:
reply
That's horrible considering MI finished last on the points table in IPL this year...
But for NY, they are inaugural 🏆 holder.. I would love if they give captaincy to hardik pandra this year and they go down on the table...
reply
They said MI was some kind of joke?
reply
Doesn’t it mean Mumbai Indians?
reply
Yes, but I don't know why the commentators were laughing about it.
reply
Because Hardik is a joker!!!! The captain of MI..
reply
So I guess I shouldn't root for my hometown team? I have to decide soon.
reply
No, you should root for your home team. Hardik won't play here for MINY.
The Mumbai Indians had a bad 2024 I guess. Bumrah did well for wickets though. Maybe it’s a joke about the Indians taking over where the Lenape once were?
reply
reply
Yes the way they handed captaincy to Hardik and refused it to Rohit was not welcome by fans... Fans booed Hardik in every match...
reply
Some interesting players in there; Rashid Khan, David Weisse. I think they are hoping to build on interest from the World Cup.
reply
Yes they are. We have a good South Asian immigrant population and a lot of curious New Yorkers. We'll see.
reply
I think the advantage of the game over baseball is that the game can be played in a short time. But it needs to shake its ‘boring’ status
reply
I'll definitely watch. I guess I have to root for the Mumbai Indians now, since they own the team.
reply
Unexpected outcome for India.

Or simply put Pakistan bowled well.
reply
Yes they bowled welll...
reply
Yes, but I believe India will defend it easily...

What if they couldn't? 🤔
reply
1st wicket down!!! India aren't no. 1 for nothing...
reply
Very low scoring.
reply
It's not a low score in this pitch!!!
reply
Yes, I was looking at all the scores on this pitch and they are very low. Except for Canada of course but that is not unexpected since they are the best team.
reply
The next match for Canada is against Pakistan. I will see how the Canadian batsmen fare against the likes of Afridi and Amir on this very sme pitch...
reply
Canada will score at least 150.
reply
Sure!!! Canada is the best team considering they have scored most number of runs in the tournament only after USA though...
reply
Yes, US got very lucky in the first game. If that game was played again 10 times, Canada would win 11 out of 10.
reply
I don't see see them winning it even once as the US are unstoppable now.
What if they couldn't? 🤔
reply
Or simply put Pakistan bowled well.

What is happening!!! This game, this tournament. Incredible. India will do well to get over 130 now. Still might be a tricky score for Pakistan to chase though so not over yet for India.
reply
Yes, anything above 130 is a very good score here. India has some very good bowlers.
reply
Has there been much criticism of this pitch? (No one here has mentioned it today despite the controversy)
reply
Yes, it's not a good pitch considering how modern day Cricket would have liked it to be. It's a batsmen game these days but TBH if one or two such pitches are there, I won't mind. Bowlers are also there to play...
reply
You play the pitch you are given. Keeps it interesting and adds to the unpredictability. I worry about it being dangerous though.
reply
Yes it's dangerous....
reply
My 160 prediction looking unlikely.
reply
Mine 170 is impossible now...
reply

Fakhar Zaman goes down and India is still fighting.

reply
Still very tense…
reply

Babar Azam gone! Pakistan have fragile batting order ..

reply
Not managed to make the most of the power play…
reply
India is trapped now
reply

Pant and Jadeja are out on two consecutive deliveries! Amir has led a comeback for Pakistan....

reply
If Pant goes on like this, Pakistan would accuse those fielders who dropped him thrice.
reply
They would have a point. Couple of good chances missed.
reply
> The action has certainly lived up to the hype so far! So much has happened in those 10 overs and it's hard to pick a side at the moment. India have done really well to keep the scoring rate up despite losing 3 wickets. Pant has had more than his fair share of luck but is looking good now.
reply

India's 3rd wicket falls. Axar gone. It was a suicide.

reply
A few more runs would have been nice but he’s put in a decent turn.
reply

7 runs from the 7th over...Ind are 57/2. Pant and axar won't bow down .

reply
I worry Pant has pulled something…
And Axar gone! (edited)
reply

How many runs will India score?

reply
I think 160…
reply
Bumrah does it again!
reply
Hat trick ball!!!!
reply
No, hatrick today...
reply
No. Regardless of the team I love watching a bowler try for it..
reply
India win by 6 runs....
reply
reply

With Imad, there goes the hopes of Pakistan...

reply
Fun Fact:
Iftikhar can't take catches but he can hand his wicket to Arshdeep.
reply

The most intense moments in Cricket ....

reply

Pak need 21 runs in last 12 balls. BUMRAH will be next....

reply

As I said Pakistan are greatest chokers!! They can't handle pressure!! Another wicket falls!!

reply
0 sats \ 0 replies \ @MB 9 Jun
Absolutely right. Yet again they are letting the game slip away from them!
reply

All of Pakistan's specialist batsmen are out now! India is so much back in the game!!

reply

BOOM BOOM BUMRAH.....

reply
0 sats \ 0 replies \ @MB 9 Jun
This is a strong, confident start from Pakistan. India need a couple of wickets before the end of the powerplay
reply

India is all out at 119. It's a good score here. It can easily be a winning score.

reply
Bumrah gone. Another hatrick ball!
reply

The monsters in the pitch have risen now. Shiva Dube walks back without impacting too much of the score board.

reply

Surya gone now!!! Can Pakistan capitalise on the breakthrough?

reply
Rauf isn’t giving much away…
reply
Best bit of commentary; ‘It’s turning into the Pant show’ 😳
reply

Update

After powerplay India are 50/2. A good beginning by India on a difficult pitch.
I think the score would be above 170
reply
Nothing to worry as India have enough batting left. Surprising to Azar come out. May be to slog pakistani bowlers our of the park...
reply
He’s warming up now….

Living dangerously.. Two chances, two missed chances .
reply
The first was a chance, the second less so..
reply

Rohit is gone too!!!

reply

Kohli gone...

reply
Rohit also gone. That's Indian batting backbone gone 👀
reply
That's not backbone. That's the muscle part of Indian batting...
reply
You depend on these two, so they're the backbone. Muscles has just come out, Pant, Axar, Sky next .. they're the muscles.
reply
Naseem Shah strikes. Kohli gone. 👀
reply
And we are off again with a bang!
reply
Oh dear, this is not what anybody wanted to see. The players are walking back as it has started to rain again. The covers are being rushed on . We'll probably lose some overs this time around. The rain isn't heavy but it's steady, hopefully it's not a long delay. Stick around for the latest. The forecast doesn't look bad so this should be a passing shower.
reply
Pakistan will be grateful for the rain after that superb 6 from Sharma in the first (and only so far) over.
reply
Rain affected match helps Pakistan here during chase if conditions don't get worsen. 👀
reply
No, Pakistan don't play better in the chases. They aren't called chokers for nothing.
reply
They're not called chockers its only you.who calls them chocker and that doesn't make them chockers.
They player better when they're chasing nowadays. It's bowling who can't defend targets anymore.
reply

That 6 surprised me.. Excellent shot.
reply
Looked effortless..
reply
Afridi to open the bowling?
reply
Should've gone with Imad to surprise Rohit but static thinking from the Captain and management 🤦
reply
I think it’s in Afridi’s contract…
reply
It is but if & when pitch is assisting or swing available but if pitch is not assisting he becomes useless.
His pace is gone after injury, so he has become less effective if there's no swing.
