Played 2, Won 1, Lost 1, Points 2. That's the status of the two teams that'll lock horns against each other today. Hello everyone and a warm welcome to this Group D encounter from Kingstown. It's Bangladesh vs Netherlands. Both of them came so close to beating the Proteas. But South Africa emerged victorious on both occasions and have already sealed a Super Eight spot. And that makes this a very crucial match. While this is not a knockout encounter, the winner today will be in a more comfortable situation to progress to the next round.
The Arnos Vale Ground is hosting its first international match since 2014 and it'll be interesting to see how the pitch behaves. With both the sides having played their previous match at New York, they'll hope for a better batting surface. Netherlands notched up an impressive win against Bangladesh in the 2023 ODI World Cup but this is a different format and the latter have a 3-1 head-to-head record against the Dutch in T20Is. Promises to be a cracking encounter.

Toss Update -

Pitch Report -

Dimensions - 67m (hitting into the end) and 61m square boundaries, 76m straight down the ground. We are going to get some good carry. The pitch is very nice and hard. There's a decent grass covering and a bit of greenness to the gras as well. The ball is going to carry through. It's going to be a better surface.

Preview -

Three full tosses. That's how many Keshav Maharaj bowled while defending 10 runs in the final over in New York. And had Bangladesh been able to put away even one of them, the Group D picture would have looked quite different from what it does now, with South Africa having qualified and the rest left to scrape their way to the next round.
No wonder Najmul Hossain Shanto, the Bangladesh captain, called it a match his side "should have won"; and while that chance went abegging, they have a crucial encounter coming up against the Netherlands, a side that also is on two points after two matches. So a win here for Bangladesh could go a long way in them joining South Africa in the Super 8s.
Netherlands are also in the same boat as Bangladesh when it comes to missed opportunities against South Africa. They had Aiden Markram's side on the mat at 12/4 but didn't quite have answers to David Miller's mature innings at the back end. However, Bangladesh in all their vulnerability are a more realistic hunt for the Netherlands in their campaign push for the second round.
Irrespective of who wins this clash, a result in this match will mean curtains for Sri Lanka.

What are the tiebreaker rules if USA and Pakistan are tied 2-2, do the US move on because they have defeated Pakistan?
reply
It's the Net Run Rate that decides then..
Both USA and Pakistan will play their last matches with Ireland. Both these matches will be played in Lauderhill. The weather forcast for both matches is abysmal. If Pak-IRE, or both these matches, get abandoned USA are through. If USA wins against Ireland, again USA are through. If Pakistan wins against Ireland and USA loses against Ireland, only then Pakistan will move to the super 8s.

So US definitely needs to win to move on.

If Pakistan loses against Ireland, you know very well what that means.

Great. Thanks for the update. I am rooting for the US now that Canada has been eliminated. I was impressed with their performance against India even though they lost. They played a close game against the best team.

No, no, Canada is not eliminated. Suppose Canada beats India with a good margin and both Pakistan and USA loses against IREland with a good margin. Who knows then? Canada can make it, Ireland can make it, Pakistan can make it, and of course USA are sitting pretty high on it as they only have to beat Ireland and all others are eliminated....
Because all of these matches-USA vs Ireland happening first so, I can see that we will come to know by tomorrow
Bangladesh are nearly through to the next round. Excellent turnaround from their bowlers in the last six overs. The match was in the balance at that stage with Netherlands needing 56 off 36 with 7 wickets in hand, but things fell apart for them with the wicket of Engelbrecht who was looking really good in the middle. Rishad Hossain, who got some punishment in his first over, came back beautifully and played a key role in turning the balance towards Bangladesh.

I see a setback for Bangladesh today. You all have picked Bangladesh.
