Howdy Stackers!!
India vs Canada match went as per expectations - a washout to be precise. It was irrelevant except Indian batsmen could have knocked the ball a bit around. Group A is already set with USA and India both are into the super 8s.
As for other groups, it stands with seven league stage matches to go, two Super 8s spots up for grabs and four teams are vying for it. One of those spots will be sealed after the two upcoming games. The equation for the defending champions is to win today and hope that their arch rivals - Australia - prevail against Scotland. Any other result(s) will see Scotland progressing to the next round. On that note, hello and a warm welcome to Game 34. It's Namibia vs England in Antigua.

Toss Update -

It's raining heavily there! It's a new normal in Cricket.

Pitch Report -

Same pitch that was used for the England-Oman game. We haven't had that strong breeze today. Dimensions are the same - 59m and 69m square, 75m down the ground. This was a good cricket pitch - it offered pace and bounce for the quick bowlers and turn for the spinners. Not a blade of grass on this surface. Once again, Adil Rashid is going to be a difficult proposition. He is going to enjoy this surface.

Preview -

A record win against Oman has, to a great extent, put England's fate back in their hands. As long as group toppers Australia can manage to stay unbeaten, for their own good, England's massive NRR jump - from -1.8 before the match to +3.08 - has ensured they also only need a win against an already-eliminated Namibia to make it through to Super 8s.
The defending champions were tested thoroughly in their rained-out tournament opener against Scotland, before allowing Australia to plunder this World Cup's only 200 score thus far. After that wobbly start to their campaign, England put on a clinical all-round show against Oman to bundle them out for a lowly 47 and then chase it down in under 20 balls.
In contrast, Namibia, their opponents on Sunday, picked up a Super Over win against Oman but lost steam against the tougher competition. However with their own fate on the line, England will know better than to take Gerhard Erasmus's side lightly.
England's NRR currently is well above second-placed Scotland's 2.16, and they seek only a W to progress unless, the following day, the neighbours can conjure up some magic to add another chapter to this World Cup of early upsets.
Thanks you so much for your consistent love and support for the live blog...
This is looking very ominous for England. As a fan it would be disappointing for England to go out having lost 2 out of 4 games to the weather. Think the ICC need to avoid rainy season in any future event along with having a backup day for games missed due to rain.

Wow, we have an update! If there's no further rain, toss will take place at 15:40 Local Time (hardy 30 minutes from now). Ball 1 at 16:00. It'll be a 11-overs-per-side encounter.

I didn’t think we would get any cricket in this match so England need to take their chance now. Looks like they are going to set a decent total for Namibia

What happens with US and Ireland? Game is cancelled but how does it affect the standings?
reply
It was washout so USA and Ireland both shared 1 point each. With this one point USA has reached to 5 points. For Pakistan and any other team in the group, it's now impossible to reach 5 points so USA qualified to the next stage.
reply
But what if Pakistan wins the last game. We don't know if US would have won. If they had lost it would be tied.
reply
I want Pakistan will win. So that we will get to see India-Pakistan match once again.
We don't know if US would have won. If they had lost it would be tied
Then Run-rate will matter.
reply
Don't you know that US and Ireland match is over? It was a washout so USA has already qualified and Pakistan has been knocked out.
reply
I don't read update. So I am not aware of it. Thanks for correcting me.
reply
Please read the previous comment once again. I've edited it.
Even if Pakistan wins the last game, they can reach to 4 points only. While US is at 5 points already so they qualify.
reply
The US gets a point for a cancelled game? That's very odd. That must be unique to cricket. I can't think of any other sport that rewards you for not playing.
reply
It's not unique to Cricket. In many other sports, if it's a washout or the match can't be completed then both teams share equal points.
It also happens in Hockey, Football and other such sports.
reply
When you say hockey, it's what North Americans think of as field hockey?
Oh well. They don't do that in North American sports. If the game matters to the standings it will be played some how, some way.

Namibia have won the toss and opted to field.

England are looking in bit of a bother there. 2 wickets down for 18 runs in 3 overs.

4:46pm local which is 1hour and 45 minutes from now, is the latest point at which a five-over game can begin. Things are looking bleak for England as it's still raining.
reply
Just over 2 hours left for it to stop raining and we get some sort of game. Otherwise England will be on the early plane home …
