From Competing with Apple and Google - A Weekend Discussion

Excerpt:

Create a large scale open-source project and back it behind an organisation/company similar to the AOSP, Ubuntu or Sourcehut business model. Initially start as a project for other devices to reduce cost and achieve funds, and eventually work with an OEM to manufacture a hardware device for that with said funds.

I wonder how much of the mempool clearing is related to this.

Has anyone responded to you yet when you reply to the post/comment advising it is the top one from x year(s) ago?

reply

Yes, @felipe chatted with me and @cryotosensei a bit.

It does kind of bum me out seeing all these early stackers who aren't active anymore.

reply

Yes, I wonder if early stackers left because there wasn't much going on at the time and they lost interest. It would be great if some early stackers who aren't active anymore came back now to see their reaction to how the site and community has grown and changed.

reply

Maybe so. I do remember there being quite a bit of pushback against territories. You may have driven some of them away when you emerged victorious in that battle.

reply

Yes, I recall there were some who did not approve of the SN fork.

reply

SN had a fork!!

Soft or hard?

reply

Hard fork. Big subbers won.

reply

Was it a hard fork? I think a lot of the opponents just muted all the new content and carried on like nothing ever happened.

I guess it's still a hard fork, but they're pretending like it wasn't.

Lots of people end up losing their login credentials and creating new accounts too.

reply

Gone are the days where we could make thousands of sats with literally 3 sentences haha

reply

That's a bit defeatist. I'm sure someone could still do that, if they really made them count.

It might be a fun challenge.

reply

I agree with @EnormousPony's top comment. Is there an even greater risk after two years?

reply

Finally, top post reaches yo 10 sats with 221 in boost. Those days, stackers were very frugal.

reply

It was only about a year ago that zaps started getting a lot bigger. I remember several discussions about it when I was fairly new to SN.

reply

I have loved reading these posts the last few days! It is amazing to see what was talked about and popular a few years ago and compare it to what is going on now!

reply

It's really interesting. A year ago, people were still asking if it was ok to talk about stuff other than Bitcoin.

reply

That is pretty wild! I have only been around a few months and I love that while I can get great Bitcoin insight and news here that there is another side that also is thriving that does not deal with BTC at all and shares pictures of their animals!
