You don't need a lot of money to do this, in fact, you don't need any money at all if you have empty PET bottles at home. The process is so simple and ingenious that you'll wonder why you didn't think of it before.
You will need:
- 2 larger PET bottles
- Screwdriver or something sharp to make the holes
Procedure:
This technique can be used in gardens, flower pots or containers.
-
Using the screwdriver, make two smaller holes in the bottom of each bottle. Then, a little higher up, near the middle of each bottle, make two more holes directly opposite each other.
-
Now, fill the bottle with water to see if it leaks quickly or slowly.
-
Dig a larger hole where you want to use this irrigation system. Place the bottle in the hole so that the neck is sticking out, to prevent the soil from clogging the bottle. Fill it with water; you can also use a hose to fill it faster.
-
From time to time, you can add fertilizer to the bottle.
This way, your plants will be continuously fed. The water will reach the roots without saturating the entire bed.
You don't need to close the bottle's lid, as the water would drain much more slowly, but you can experiment with this later.
To make it easier to locate each bottle, place a stake next to it, especially as the plants grow.
