As they say, 'All good things must come to an end', today marks the culmination of what we started as an experiment on SNβ€”'A Survivor Pool For Cricket'. Now this pool will be no more and we'll finally get to know survivor/survivors. The winners will be decided today, but it's not over for Cricket. A bigger and better, running round the year pool is already out. Yes, today also marks the entry of Fantasy Cricket Legue on SN for which the first match is already out and some Stackers have already joined it here. #590427 There's still time for everyone to join the first game.
Now, let's talk a bit about today's game....
The Kensington Oval will be abuzz with excitement as a 29-day and 54-match competition culminates here today with the final. The loudest cheers, however, will ring some 14,000km in India as they eagerly await to see their heroes finally get their hands on the silverware. India have been in the final of an ICC event twice in the last 12 months and here they are once more to try and end that 11-year trophy drought. If 11-years feels like a long time, then you must only look across to the opposition - South Africa - who've been waiting for their trophy much longer, thrice as long in fact. While cricket might not be the number 1 sport of choice in South Africa, this team will carry the hopes of the entire South African cricketing fraternity. A win today will be celebrated not just by this team but by all those who've donned the Proteas jersey.

Pitch report:

Interesting looking surface. It's been that way all tournament. They've done a fair bit of rolling, but there's no live grass to hold it together. It's fairly hard to start with so I'm hoping the ball comes onto the bat quite nicely.

Last time for this pool! I feel highly indebted for all those who participated in the pool and showered their love. A huge huge thanks to them who didn't have much knowledge for the gentlemen's game but didn't let me feel down on any moment throughout the tournament. πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™
For one last time, let's begin the fun ... Let's cheer up for Cricket!!!!
What a catch by SKY. Last two overs by Bumrah and Arshdeep and this catch by SKY have won them the match that had South Africa written all over it. πŸ‘

That was an incredible catch to win the match for India. Fantastic match and well deserved win for India

South Africa have choked once again. They had this game in their hands. They had one hand on the trophy and let it slip… Congratulations to all Indian fans! Truly deserved champions! 🫑 πŸ†

I’m surprised at how many empty seats there are for such a big cricketing event. If they didn’t sell out they should have given free tickets away to local schools, better to have a full house rather than empty seats on tv.
reply
It has been a disaster of a tournament to organise it in the States & WI to be really honest with you. Grounds, pitches, atmosphere, conditions and difference in timezones have ruined the whole tournament. If it weren’t for the huge Indian population around the globe, stadiums would’ve been empty.
reply
I can agree for USA pitches not for hosting there. USA was choosen to co-host because ICC wants to add some more Cricket playing nations. Carebbians has to be the venue. Cricket is very popular there as well. It can't always be Indian Subcontinent.
I’m a big fan of trying to grow the game around the world but you can’t just rely on Indian fans to bring the atmosphere. I think that as it’s every 2 years the t20 tournament should alternate between test playing countries & associate nations but it needs to have the right structures in place. No good building grounds for a tournament for example
reply
I’m all for exhibition matches or normal T20 matches of top teams but not tournament of such stature. Caribbean is alright but US is a NO for me for the time being.
reply
The problem is exhibitions don’t grow the game. Maybe something like the IPL could spend a week somewhere outside of India to encourage new participation. IPL have been in Dubai before during Indian elections so why not have a week in the USA and other associate nations?
reply
Or maybe organise a tournament with top 2 teams from each T20 League. IPL PSL Big Bash 100 etc
reply
That’s a great idea!
reply
Also is the case that it's played in the early morning there, so as to accomodate time zone differences.
I can only confirm you that at least 800 million people alone in India are watching it live...
reply
That stand is undergoing some maintenance.
reply
Not sure why they would pick a venue that needs maintenance. But more generally there seem to be empty seats dotted around the ground

Axar Patel has been India's most valuable player in this World Cup. He has taken crucial wickets, played important quick innings and is now easing the pressure off Virat Kohli in the final scoring at a strike rate of over 140 and keeping the scoreboard moving effectively.
reply
In Indian style - Najar lag gyi tumhari.
Axar patel has gone.

He has been impressive! If not for him, India may not have gotten the runs they have today.

If there was no wicket on the last ball then the perfect result would have been 178. Just missed.

So 16 off the last 6. Hardik Pandya with the ball in hand. He was the nation's pantomime villian throughout the IPL and now he stands between India and their 11 year trophy drought. Jeez, who writes these scripts? Miller hitting with the wind to the leg side
reply
A game of nerves between two teams that have been called 'chokers' in the past. David Miller holds the key for South Africa, he has to just connect a couple sweetly to get SA over the line, India's bowlers will still believe
reply
Miller was unlucky! That was an exceptional catch by SKY πŸ”₯

So South Africa in control of the chase at the moment. Klaasen has come out and has been fed his favourite diet of spin bowling, and he's having a stomach full for now. De Kock is proding along nicely from the other end too

Been impressed by Kholi today. He hasn’t had a great tournament but pulled it out of the bag for the final!
reply
Kohli appreciation post. πŸ«‘πŸ‘
Outstanding innings from Kohli to put a respectable total on the board for India. After a tough start, Kohli had to grind and he did that even after being so out of form throughout the tournament. That’s why they say, form is temporary, class is permanent.

Kohli is playing an outstanding innings here...

Safe to say South Africa have owned that powerplay. India have a lot of work on their hands now, things haven't gone to plan so far. Surface looks pretty decent for batting and the wickets are largely down to poor shot selection
