Some people in our government are definitely communists, who are trying to control/overthrow the government. This is painfully obvious to me. History def repeats itself.
communism = inter-national socialist religion
fascism/nazism = national socialist religion
both religions carry on under various names and result in deaths of millions of people worldwide.

Communism is but one form. One political system. One that fails time and time again. The evil people you are referring to may or may not be communists but they do seek power over anything else. I suspect there are plenty of socialists which isn't any better.
The system that has been constructed is far worse than communism because it is not completely centrally controlled. I believe we are much closer to fascism than communism. Communism lacks any free markets. No privately held companies. Fascism was not defeated in WW2. It spread to the US and many democracies.
Power corrupts. Its all about power. All these systems end up being controlled by sociopaths. But they need the people to go along. Don't do it.
Declare independence. American ideals are not politics. Its about freedom, liberty, and hard work. Enjoying the fruits of your labor. Finding the value in others.

I am curious about what you mean though. I've been paying attention to government since my youth. From where I'm at there has been a movement to the direction of socialism my entire life. I see this in both parties.
One note, many communists actually referred to their political ideals as socialism. Technically there are differences. I don't like calling people communists unless they identify as that. Its akin to calling people Nazi because you disagree with them. I don't think most people could even explain the differences between communism, socialism, and fascism
