The women in the documentary were either with a male partner that couldn't conceive, hadn't been able to find a life partner, or were in a same-sex marriage. None of them seemed narcissistic to me (although some might be). They mostly seemed like they wanted children, and while I'm not a parent, having children looks pretty selfless from the outside.
I beg to differ. When children grow up and you have to explain why they don’t have dad or wonder why they look different from their parents their reality is distorted. Plus if it was solely about children they would adopt or foster kids. It’s human narcissism that explains this behavior that I must have my own children instead of acknowledging that you can’t conceive and just move on with life.
For certain things in life that are unobtainable via the natural way we rationalize this behavior because it can be viewed as someone positive but overall it’s just people fulfilling their own desires in unnatural ways like sperm donating.

That is an issue of the western world. It’s not just a USA problem plus just having a bunch of children without a strong foundation leads to more undesirable outcomes. Culture matters
