Yesterday's edition #611566

@ek makes an appearance on the leaderboard and Warren Buffet makes an impressively foolish statement that will likely live on for eternity.

Bookkeeping note: I've gotten more zaps the past few days, so I'm going to bump my zaps to top posts and comments up to 69. It would be nice to just be able to forward sats to more than 5 people.

Sure. To answer such questions you definitely need JavaScript client-side analytics. But there may be some open source libraries for that? But surely it may be easier to use a ready-made 3rd party one, just wondering how much it can cost.

112.5k sats on hynek's post!! Nobody's even giving 10k these days! Very surprising!

reply

Look at the 2021 post. Way to go @spain!

reply

Was he trying to use SN as a mixing service?

reply

I Also felt the same! Who would have zapped him that big for a price chart!

reply

I think most of the early users were his buddies, so it might have just been an easy way to zap some sats over for something else. Who knows?

My mind also went straight to money laundering or something like it. No judgement, of course.

reply

No judgement but it's what it is! I smell it and only @spain might have answers! Nothing by him after June 2022. Has he left forever after such an impressive run!?

Also, at that time it was like $100. Not such a big amount to be thought about laundering or mixing!

reply

It was more than $100 at the time. Bitcoin was around 40k in July of 2021 but regardless not a significant amount which is why I think it was a test transaction.

reply

Yes, so @Undisciplined's allegations of laundering or mixing hence hereby get rejected!!

Maybe @k00b paid him off to leave so he could stay on top of the leaderboard. It'll take more than that to get me to leave, @k00b (but I'm open to the idea).

reply

Haha! Just suppose if @k00b pays me to stay on top of the LB. Currently, I would only need a 100k zap from him! 5 times less than that of @spain's!

This was before we took our Sybil fee so people were self-zapping a lot.

reply

What was the benefit of self zapping back then? Did SN pay out daily rewards? and even if you did it couldn't be much.

reply

Rewards weren't introduce until about a year in I think. A lot of it was "look what I can do, i've outsmarted k00b."

The fees decision was due to self zapping?

reply

Yes, that's the only reason we take a zap fee. It's probably still too low though tbh.

Should we call it Zapperbation?

I don't believe there were fees back then so if someone wanted to zap sats from one account they control to another account they control they could easily do that.

reply

I saw that too. It was like normal before 2 or three years! Now, it's quite uncommon! If Sats are sats why with the price rise, zappings begin to lower.

reply

Great job! Got 28 replies here.. wow!!

reply

Someone got almost 200k yesterday. It's just very uncommon.

reply

I don't know how I missed that post! It was a deserving post!

reply

some old comments got zapped, and I thought it was from here, but it seems no πŸ‘€ even more interesting:) cc @ek

Yes, late last night my ASG ratings post randomly got zapped 2k sats. Being the great human I am. I paid some of it forward and zapped 1k sats to another post.

Eventually Berkshire Hathaway will have Bitcoin on their balance sheet but Warren won’t be around to see it.

reply

Today's post is special. It has taken away @k00b's chair!

reply

I couldn't stand seeing k00b anymore 🀠 Congrats, @ek!

reply

I too! Kinda started to get bored 😴

But, till 2022 we can't do anything ... @k00b will be there!

Anyways congratulations @ek

reply

I'll probably start showing up in November. 🀠

reply

I think the largest amount of sats i've seen a post get is 50K sats until this one from Hynek at 112K, dang! Maybe in a bear market.

reply

Keep on going. That's not even the biggest one in today's edition.

reply

Warren Buffett gets a lot of flak for staying away from Bitcoin, but I think he just doesn’t want to venture into something that he doesn’t understand. And that’s fine. Wealth can be created in many ways - as he has evidently demonstrated

reply

I think that's right. The statement itself reminds me of Krugman famously saying the internet would be no more important than the fax machine.

It's not that he should be buying, rather it's just fascinating how amazingly wrong public experts can be and how confident they are in their statements.

reply

@Undisciplined This place on SN is an endless rabbit hole of such good posts and knowledge and makes me come back every day for more! Thanks for all these good references for all the peeps making this place and the world a better place!

reply

I'm really glad you're enjoying it. There have been so many great posts on SN and I don't want them to become lost to time. I remember some of the 2023 posts, but all of the older posts are new to me, too.

reply
It would be nice to just be able to forward sats to more than 5 people.

It should be pretty easy in the code to bump this limit to 10 (or some other number). IIRC it's just a constant somewhere.

reply

That's what I would expect.
