You are starting a franchise from scratch and you get to select one young NFL player (under 25yrs old) for your roster. Ignore current contract status and assume this player will be with your team for the next 10 years as you try to build a champion from scratch. Who do you choose?

CJ Stroud. Isn't he the guy who won the most offensive rookie award last year? I read and watch about American football a little just because it's different from FIFA.
reply
Yes he won offensive rookie of the year last year. Also got his team to the playoffs when they weren’t expected to make it.
reply
So, he is a great player in the making!
reply
CJ Stroud, but as a Packer fan I am perfectly happy and would also choose Jordan Love (25)
reply
Under 25. But we will give Love and honorable mention.
reply
I know haha, just excited for the next 10 years before Green Bay makes him crazy like those before him :)
reply
CJ Stroud, of course!

have to start with a QB

Not a forward player in the pool?

QB?
I've chosen Caleb Williams because I like his name. I'm grateful to my knowledge for American sports!

Sauce Gardener
reply
Sauce is great but I am not sure CB is an important enough position in NFL to take him over QB, WR or DE.
reply
I'll choose brock purdy.
reply
Brock won't let you down.
reply
He is a good player.
reply
QB's too important to pick one of those other guys, I think. I took CJ because he's already got serious PoW on Caleb and more upside than Purdy.
I was tempted by Puka, though. He's so good.
reply
I think I would take CJ as well but Purdy is going to win MVP this year.
reply
He certainly might, unless voters realized that it should just be Mahomes every year.
reply
I am super bullish on Purdy with a full offseason and training camp, healthy weapons and more depth to back up those weapons if they do go down. I don't think the Chiefs care that much about the regular season but yeah if Mahomes goes off all year he will be a lock for the MVP.

I like the value on Purdy, Mahomes, and Burrow.
reply
Burrow is an interesting one. I really like Burrow. I don't know if he will put up MVP numbers though and that division is a meat grinder.
reply
I could see a scenario where he has a bunch of game winning drives that keep them in contention, plus some solid numbers, that make him a media darling.
What about Aiyuk? There's a lot of noise about him wanting out.
I'm not sure Mahomes even has to go off. I think MVP voters regret their votes when their guy flames out in the playoffs. No one's going to regret having voted for Mahomes.
It also seems like Purdy has the classic hurdle of too many talented teammates. It's really hard to assess what his contribution is.
reply
Aiyuk reported to camp unlike CeeDee Lamb. He wants the St Brown deal. I don't think he will get it. We will see. I know Shanahan will want to keep him and Kyle usually gets what he wants but they have to pay Purdy next year so even with the cap going up and the ability to punt the big cap hits a few years down the road they will definitely need to make some changes. Maybe they let Aiyuk play out the year and then franchise tag and trade him. He really has no leverage other than holding out and getting fined 50k per day.
Trent Williams also wants his deal redone but I think that is more about the guaranteed money. I am sure they will get that resolved.
49ers are in a really good spot for this season. We will see what happens next year when they have to start paying Purdy. Maybe they let Aiyuk go, maybe they trade Deebo.
reply
This seems like their last best chance. I'd be all in on making everyone as happy as possible for this season and deal with the rest later.
reply
It might be their best chance. I am not sure about last chance though. Shanahan and Lynch have built a great system and they develop late round draft picks better than anyone. If Brock is the guy and they lock him up I think they will have more chances but this might be the best chance with a team littered with all pros.
