there's just not enough content. I can brainrot scroll twitter for hours and never run out of stuff. i run out of things on nostr in 20 mins
I see that as a plus.
That's a feature not a bug. Nostr doesn't feed you random stuff, it feeds you your follows
Id say if your content isn't there trying plugging in someone else npub in and find new and different people to follow.
I am really interested to see what social media platforms look like when the incentive is to receive money directly from users rather than advertisers monetizing their attention, and with anyone being able to develop clients using the same protocol.
So create something to post! :-)
Then there will be tiny, but constant amounts of sats coming for your wallet too!
On primal I go through what’s trending and scroll through my network feed, then I jump to SN hot and recent.

Exactly. Content discovery is also still not there yet. It’s certainly improving, but outside of bitcoin, the smaller communities are tiny and disjointed.
While it’s cool, it doesn’t fix the problem of infinite scrolling brain rot. I’d just rather not have any at all!
Other: I'm planning to build my digital identity into Nostr, using it for blogging, so I'm carefully and patiently preparing very long content for it, all of which is part of a general theory I'm developing around freedom and decentralization.

I find very hard to focus on short content like what there is on relays of Primal, etc. Also I prefer to read books. I think it could be a generational problem. When I was born there was no Internet so I still use paper and enjoy ebooks better than twitter-like platforms, such as Primal.
Stacker News is a nice sweet spot between not too short and not too long content in my opinion.

How do I plug in relays in the search? I think it's just too early for nostr some like it some don't has to prove it's self first before the plebs jump on it

Just not enough content and engagement. I try to check and post a couple times a day. I want it to grow and succeed.

There is not enough engagement.
Perhaps Twitter is not censoring enough and there is no need to move over to Nostr.
The only complication I've found is setting up a relay myself. Private or public. I've managed to run a private relay, relatively straight forward but, barriers to entry to run public seem a little high and possibly costly.
I know this may not directly be inhibiting Nostr users who just want to use a public relay that's not their own relay, but I think it's part of the puzzle (as well as old habit's dying hard and the others you mention.
It's very simple.. freedom haters.
I don't trust my private key to browser extensions. If ledger or trust add nostr PK support it'll be game changer, imo

This is pleb specials but I want to have something off my chest. Nostr is way too complicated and still very slow for people who are not sound about Bitcoin, LN, and other related stuff. People who aren't into Bitcoin won't join there and if they join somehow, they won't stay.
I honestly think with people's scarce time, they want to go on a platform that has everything (network effects), and while NOSTR is great, there are many influencers that people want to hear from that aren't on the platform.

yeah, it will just take time for people to need it more than twitter
The signal to noise ratio on Nostr just is painfully low. I've gotten to the point of checking it maybe once a week now. Like the tech, just need people talking about things beyond just btc there.
Might just depend on your follows and feed.
I use primal/damus but only lurk because I get more interaction on posts here.
