So... right after I decided to start stacking on LN (for spend and replace and easy access), researched a lot of lightning wallets, finally decided on Mutiny, wired some sats and opened a channel, the news on Mutiny being abandoned showed up.
What is the alternative for someone who does not want to run Umbrel/Start9 (i do run two full nodes, but don't have the time to learn ins and outs of LN) and would prefer to keep sats on a non-custodial wallet?
Zeus looks nice (starts slowly though) but I'd love some input from experienced users.
What's your wallet? What would you recommend?

Zeus and Blixt, both are pretty good. I am using Zeus right now.

Check out Phoenix.

I only use Phoenix to look up the currency exchange rate, a really good hidden feature. 😂

phoenix is great (reliable, recoverable) but - expensive

@justin_shocknet time to plug your wallet!

Aha, thanks for the tag...
OP, ShockWallet.app is the best lightning wallet available
It's not a node on the phone, so it's actually reliable.
It connects to a remote node over nostr, the back-end automates network and channels so there's no management overhead.
You can also share that with your friends/family easily and earn hosting fees, our installer only takes 1 line and 2 minutes to get going in either a $5 VPS or an old laptop running Linux.
In a few weeks we'll even have the backend setup automated, you can start using just the wallet in a custodial bootstrap mode and it will buy its own VPS when there's enough balance to warrant a channel
We're shipping fixes every few days too, still early but it's already the best daily driver wallet

Cool project.

Zeus is great. So is Blixt. If you're not in USA, Phoenix. I have been using Zeus for two years. I use it through my node, but now there is an option for an LSP. Same with Blixt and Phoenix.

I like and use Zeus to plug into the Nostr ecosystem (zapping, nostr-keys, LN url, etc). It's way too slow to load, but besides that it's fully featured and it's actively surveilled in wallet scrutiny. My main savings wallet is Muun, which I like for it seamlessly integrates Lightning and on-chain payments.
I'm happy with that, but some acquaintances use Bluewallet and are happy with it too.

Something weird happened to blue wallet in USA recently.
Blue was very popular in 2021 then Phoenix came along.
I also liked Wallet of Satoshi.
Mutiny is a good wallet too. I wanted to experiment with federations in mutiny but not anymore

I'm interested to know more about what might have happened to bluewallet if you don't mind, I will forward it to this group (it's a local bitcoiner community).

I have had problems with connection and payment in transit. Maybe it’s because my balance is too low. It’s not a big deal because I stopped using Blue in 2023.
From perplexity:
Common issues users face with BlueWallet include:
  • Insufficient Balance: Users often encounter problems due to not having enough balance or confirmed inputs for transactions[1].
  • Balance Updates: Delays or failures in balance updates are frequent complaints[1].
  • Refill Delays: Users report that refilling their wallet can take too much time[1].
  • Payment in Transit: Transactions sometimes get stuck in transit[1].
  • Connection Issues: Problems connecting to LND nodes and invalid LNDHub URIs are common[2].
  • Fee Estimation: Incorrect fee estimation during network congestion[3].
  • Dust Transactions: Transactions rejected due to being considered "dust" (too small)[4].
  • Tor Support Removal: Some users are unhappy with the removal of Tor support[5].

Thank you Sr!
The guys on this community have long been developing their own wallet, I'm going to ask them to pitch it up on SN. They have even developed cards and postnets for it.

For mobile LN I like electrum. Coin control, loop in/out and private. That's all you need really.

I thought that Electrum was for on-chain only.

What devices are you needing to use this on?
Web, Android, iOS?
reply
iOS is my primary driver but I'm looking to switch to a GrapheneOS based Pixel phone. LN wallet will be used primarily for small p2p payments, so I'm mostly interested in mobile devices. Ideally I'd love a wallet working 1:1 no matter the platform.

Phoenix you can install directly from the apk but I don't think has a web version.
Coinos runs as PWA but is an custodian solution but could be find for small amounts.
reply
If I can get to some official, verifiable APK, then I'll be fine. I can always build android APK from source as well.
Zeus is good.
reply
Just not choose one, use 3 or 4 for daily spending.
