My little daughter has a very large stuffed hippopotamus in her room at our beach house... whenever summer comes and we go to Lurin, a coastal area of Lima, Peru, every year she runs out as if it were the first time she has seen him. and gives him a big hug... he is his beach buddy... he is his vacation buddy... personally, hippos in real life look strange because of their large size but they are tender and peaceful... and you just see them enjoying themselves. a swim in their pool on a hot day at the zoo..
Lately I have been watching web cams set up at various African lodges and wildlife preserves. They usually are located near a pond or watering hole, so there is plenty of activity. Last night I watched a hippo laying in a shallow pond for about 10 minutes. Mesmerizing. Maybe your son would enjoy this?
