New York-adjacent singles are claiming to be Big Apple residents on their dating profiles — a sneaky trend dubbed “hoodfishing.”
If it take three trains or a “red eye” flight to get to the date, you know someone’s hoodfishing — a cousin to catfishing, in which someone makes a fake online persona to lure in romantic interests. #stophoodfishing
While there are many other important issues to protest upon New Yorkers choosing 'hoodfishing' to protest against is kind of weird in itself.
But, there are/can be many people who are lining up in support of hood fishing. It's like a right or a left situation. Read these from those who are in favour of 'hoodfishing'.
“As long as men height-fish, income-fish, marital status-fish, I will keep hood fishing!!!!” said one
“I used to do this with NJ transit/Port Authority,” confessed one. “I would lie and say I’m going to Penn because taking a bus sounds so bad.”

I am so glad I am old and married and don’t need to partake in these silly games.
reply
Why you always keep calling yourself Old?
reply
I am young at heart.
reply
Isn't it weird that whenever you ask someone for their age, you call them Old. This is English for you.
How OLD are you?
reply
Is it different in Hindi?
reply
Yes, it's 'aap kitne sal ke ho?' Translates into - 'how many years you are?' Sal = years, not old.
reply
I like it.

Do you know Hindi and English both are in the same group, which is Indo-Roman group of languages. A lot of words in Hindi and English are very much similar. For example - Name is Naam in Hindi.
The whole dating scene seems like a losing proposition.
reply
maybe they meant it specifically for young people.

I feel like this isn't even new. There was an episode of How I Met Your Mother that touched on it, and there's always been a "bridge and tunnel" stigma in NYC.
reply
This is kind of pathetic. Its just better to date in your area. What is the point of keeping up with a lie forever? You are already building the foundation of a relationship on a lie.
reply
It's interesting and I think it's a unique way to date.
reply
They come up with all sorts of things. It seems you can't trust anyone.
reply
I personally don't like these type things.
