I was looking through some basketball stats and I came across a metric that yielded this top 10 list. What do people think about the ranking? It seems pretty good for a single metric.
- LeBron
- Jordan
- Duncan
- Kareem
- Magic
- Wilt
- Shaq
- Kobe
- Russell
- Dr. J
1000 sats for whoever can best identify what that ranking is based on.
1,000 sats paid
Playoff win shares.
Pretty good list.
Well done, sir. You've proven why you're the boss around these parts.
I may have spent 10 minutes looking at basketball reference to try to find the answer. You didn't say it wasn't an open book exam.
Bonus Question
Which metric (value in second column) provides the following ranking? https://m.stacker.news/46357
That's what I was looking into when I came across the other list.
Hmmm tough one.
Still stumped on this one.
That's the number of playoffs in which they had the most win shares.
Jordan's 7 are insane when you consider that he only made to the finals 6 times (and in one of those it was actually Barkley who had the most win shares).
In the two seasons before winning his first title, Jordan had the most playoff win shares, despite playing an entire series less than other guys.
Nice. Good stat.
What rank is Steph Curry? I think I'd put him in front of Dr. J
Steph is 19th. Draymond and KD both earned a lot of win shares during those playoff runs.
Steph is really hard to assess well, imo. It's hard to account for someone whose value largely comes from making things easier for teammates and having the character to build a dynasty around.
Assists?
Nope. Thanks for playing.
List is fine. Jordan should be #1. Id also move Shaq up higher, in his prime there was no one in the history of the NBA that could contain him.
It's career playoff win shares, so I guess those guys needed be dominant in more playoff runs. That is something about LeBron that is completely absurd compared to everyone else.
Congratulations @grayruby
Thanks. Nice to win a bounty for once rather than just giving all my sats away. Ha.
Now if @Undisciplined wins the UFC pick 'em tonight I can send him 2k sats back after he sent me 1k sats. It's like the Nigerian prince scam except not a scam.
Unless you think of k00b as the Nigerian Prince. He gets 10% of all these sats, after all.
