The thread was created by the founder of Signal so expect a strong bias and FUD of course. Instead of innovating and making Signal better he's attacking the competition as expected.
He is already doing that, though. Signal has been pushing the whole space forward for years now. Just by existing, they are a critique of messengers like Telegram. But people often don't realize the truth about Signal's competitors, so he's just laying it out there.
What kind of innovation or improvement do you think Signal lacks?
Except there is no metadata to analyze. That is the point. They are very open about the fact that the only data they have is when your account was created and (i think) your last login time.
The phone number was a stroke of genius because your phone contacts is your social network. Really easy bootstrapping off the existing network.
There are other options that don’t require a phone number, but predictably they are less popular. Try Session, Status, Matrix, XMPP, etc.
glad i never used that "service"

Last i checked, Signal requires a phone number. That means all users are dox'd - lots of meta-data to analyze.

Moxie blocked me for telling him to stop attacking competitors and instead focusing on making Signal better.
Moxie also brings some solid points on the privacy aspects of the Muun hosted channels here: https://twitter.com/moxie/status/1474874833544839168
I appreciate his fight against any identifiable metadata or data being sent to server...
