It has shocked me as well and all I can think is that Germany and the other EU countries that depend on it told them hey we will give you cash and weapons don't destroy anymore than what is destroyed so Ukraine agreed. The contracts ending are going to really hurt Russia because even though Turkey is looking to be the new place Russian gas moves through those pipelines are stupid expensive and take time.

Won't it hurt Europe worse, since they're already so energy poor and Russia can just sell into Asia's ever growing energy demand?

I think so, yes

Ironically Russia only has a single small pipeline to China... They are trying to build out additional facilities but again it take time and money to do this while China loves US LNG

I didn't realize that. Does Russia export any LNG from their Pacific ports?

Yes it appears they have two facilities one which came online in 2022 but they appear to be pretty small... One exported 10 mil ton of LNG the other under 2 million. In the US the top 5 range from 12.06 mil tons to 29.5 mil tons so they are there but it doesn't seem they are super effective.
Plus ships that carry LNG are super obvious since they are so unique in design so sanctioning those ships would be super easy for the West.
