It could, but we need to be the change we wish to see in the world! This means going places and trying to pay with Bitcoin. It means starting businesses and trying to accept in bitcoin. This is the change we need at scale.

Absolutely -
I believe that as a Bitcoiner I can best serve my fellow Bitcoiners by promoting the use of Bitcoin by as many people as possible in as short of a time as possible.
Did you mean starting businesses and accepting bitcoin vs. trying to accept bitcoin - unless you meant trying to convince customers to pay in bitcoin?

answering a question with a question.....almost as tricky as giving a clear definition of something that is dependent on ones own perceptions?

adoption seems pretty massive compared to some years ago. in the context of the whole world, though we have not reached a critical mass.

It certainly is massive when compared to the past... I do believe it is inevitable that it will continue for eternity (unless we snuff humanity out of existence...)

As many others say, I think it will take longer than many of us would have expected years before.

Bitcoin will be the future reserve currency for a few decades to a few centuries at least.
If we lose internet availability for most people and microprocessor mass manufacturing due to energy bottleneck (not unlikely), it will be superceded by a non internet-protocol based reserve currency in the next civilization phase. Maybe back to gold, maybe something else; influenced by bitcoin but lower energy use and lower tech. Like monks doing mass human pen and paper hashing (something easier, not sha256) in a mirror-semaphore network of monasteries, to keep big money transactions honest, or at least as honest as possible.

Notion of protocol is powerful concept, even without computers or internet.

From where I see it, I would like the answer to be YES. But the point is that the adoption of Bitcoin goes through the education of people about Bitcoin and its benefits, the reduction or elimination of attacks against Bitcoin by government and economic entities, which are so hypocritical that they criticize it but have it; also our own effort to create a circular economy around Bitcoin without complicating the matter so much for ordinary people.
When we were children, they gave us money to buy anything and we simply used the money and that was it, nobody explained to us how the fiat system worked, of course they didn't know how it actually works either, but for us the most important thing was to use that money to buy and that's it. Today people are like those children in the sense of Bitcoin thinking, if we try to explain the technical aspects of Bitcoin before helping them see how they can buy and sell with Bitcoin, people can move away more than adopt it. Of course, there are issues that, depending on each person, they should know at a certain time.
It would be good to ask if in an era where children have mobile phones connected to the internet, do our children know how to use a Lightning wallet on the Testnet to play, learn and then teach their friends? Do my children, grandchildren or nephews do it? It could be a good start.
Mass adoption is necessary, whether it will be carried out or not will depend on many things, we are fighting against a fiat system established by imposition and against minds enslaved by that system.
Hopefully this adoption will happen as soon as possible. But I am also worried that if it happens:
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE ENTITIES THAT HOLDS SEEDS THAT GIVE THEM ACCESS TO THOUSANDS OF BTC?
HOW WILL THAT INFLUENCE THE NEW BITCOIN-ONLY SYSTEM?

Mass adoption will come in 2025. As it reaches ATH by that time. The FASB ruling about Bitcoin in balance sheets will push it to the level that all of us desire.
