People use Linux when the stakes are high, servers and development
People use Bitcoin when the stakes are high, long term value cache and under oppression
Neither need to have full market dominance, the optionality afforded by their very existence and lack of entry barriers makes them both a piece that's always on the board keeping everything else in check

Taking responsibility isn't easy for most people. But it is the cost of true freedom.

All the servers in the world will not be cost effective without Linux. So for the flashy and arrogant things we have Microsoft and Apple but the behind the scenes it is the inexpensive 5 USD a month Linux instance that runs the show. Besides the Linux Kernel is the most audited piece of software in the universe. It is being audited almost every couple of minutes. Just like Bitcoin no license fee to run. So cost effective. Fewer users although I really doubt if it is really true.
