I was perusing the top lists on Stacker News, as I do from time to time, and it occurred to me that how we each score across categories is something like a Stacker News personality type.

So, it looks like I'm highly consistent, I say things people like, I prefer to take part in conversations than lead them, I'm a bit of a cheapskate, and I have no social influence. That more or less checks out.
I'm not surprised to be doing so poorly at referrals (I actually do try to attract people to SN), but the gap between stacking and spending surprised me (I think of myself as someone who splashes sats around with a fair amount of abandon).
It takes a couple minutes to do, but what is your Stacker personality profile? Does it reflect how you think of yourself?

@remindme in 12 hours to collect my stats. I think this will be too hard to do on a phone, will do it on my computer tomorrow

Lines up, IMO. I'm here a lot, leave a fair amount of comments, don't post much, and have limited social reach (but a lot of my comments have referral links)

It seems like pretty much everyone commenting on this post fit a similar pattern:
High cowboy streak Stacking > Spending Comments > Posts Struggling with referrals
That's kind of strange, since rankings are sort of zero sum. Where are all the stackers spend more than they stack or post more than they comment?
reply
They’re off making posts and not commenting here lol

Much better than I would have ranked after 6 months.
Almost everyone I interact with on here follows the same pattern:
Stack > Spend Comment > Post

Where can I find that data?
reply
There are some drop down menus if you select "Top" on the homepage. Cowboy is its own thing and then Stackers has all the other numbers. You're pretty new though, so I recommend just looking at the past week for your rankings.
reply
How did you get this information?
reply
Under "Top" you can choose to sort by stackers, rather than posts.

God damn! I wanna know my stats too! Where can I find that summary?
Edit:
Apparently, I suck as a Stacker... 😭

That's pretty good. There have been thousands of Stackers, after all. You've also been featured on Stacker News Live, that's a rare accomplishment.

I have, and I even have a post that stacked >100K sats, hm, maybe I am amongst the Very Important Stackers, after all! 😶‍🌫️🤭🥰

I love statistics. I actually didn’t know that you can get so many rankings on different categories until I read your post.

I expected to land in the 30s for most categories - and I did. I also expected to do well for Stacking and Referrals because I’m such a hustler. I certainly didn’t disappoint myself. I thought I would do better in Posts than in Comments. Since I’m ranked so much higher in Comments, perhaps I should shift my habits towards increased commenting. I’m even more of a cheapskate than you are! Haha

Most of the regulars seem to be sort of like this, but your referrals are very impressive.
reply
Happy to beat you in at least one category haha

Just curious, when you first started on SN, did you splash around the sats? Or as you gained more, you started splashing more around? I havent been around as long as you, I have only seen a few months now.
reply
I did not. There were a few big spenders when I joined, but most people (including me) were defaulting to 1 sat. Last summer is when it dawned on me that the rewards system benefits you for zapping more.
reply
Interesting. Im not saying it is bad. I think things take time to settle. I still feel I zap too much on some comments, but you need to encourage the people to comment. Lately I have been taking a break from SN, need to recharge.
reply
You can always zap me more. Not complaining

Haha , it’s true. I think we spend plenty of time around here.

So balanced

I was lagging a bit on spending at the beginning, but I have improved that side in recent weeks.
Definitely referrals need improving!

This is pretty cool. I learned a lot about myself. Mainly, I found out where I spent my time over the last 2 1/2 years.

Outspending @k00b is very impressive.

I don't want to dox myself, but I will a little. All I will say is I have not outspent @k00b.

Then we have quite a mystery to unravel.
reply
There appears to be a prominent hidden stacker who ain't me. I don't check this stuff often.

Paranemo events?
reply
That was my initial thought, although @ek explained the mystery of the big spender. There are still big guys out there who people assume are me.

Sort posts by "top" on the homepage, then switch the drop down menu from "posts" to "stackers".

I'm yet to know what type! You tell me what type do you think I'm?
reply
When I am stuck at home, not working on my citadel, I spend too much time on SN. I have it open 24h in my desktop browser. I think that say it all.
About the rate stacking/spending I try to have a balance. But I notice that some anons are zapping me a lot. Sometimes even for simple replies. Those zaps ruin my balance because I always zap good posts and comments, but wisely.
LOL I am about to reach 21k items on SN, all time high.
reply
I made this dumb chart for me and @grayruby, you would basically be down in that Miserly Troll corner: Stack > Spend, Comment > Post.

LOL good one !

I am curious how many daily active users are on stacker. I looked at a couple of the lists and I am around 50 on most. Seems kind of high considering how much I am here.
reply
Judging by the analytics page, there are about 300 users on any given day.

I think this sums up my thoughts pretty well. Sats matter to me, but I'll say whatever's on my mind, even if it's unpopular.
reply
It looks like we're cut from the same cloth.
reply
I'm just a little kid here. I am studying right now. It will take me a long time to become a good stacker
reply
You're doing great. It feels like it takes a long time to work your way up these rankings, but before you know it you'll be showing up on them.
reply
I don't tend to put labels on people.
Each person is unique in their own way.
It's way more interesting to meet people like that and see what they have to say instead of trying to label everyone into a predefined set.
reply
This is clearly a goof. C'mon man.
reply
Thank you for sharing your very unique story on SN. I have recently begun to immerse myself in the wonderful world of SN.

Clearly I spend too much time commenting. Haha

More exaggerated than me on commenting vs posting, but less exaggerated on stacking vs spending.
reply
My territory fees count towards spending so that’s an extra million sats spent.
I would be 21st if not for the territory.
reply
I don’t see why that shouldn’t count.
reply
Agree it should.

I'm thinking this could be one of those 2-D political compass looking things.
Left/Right could be Spending/Stacking and Up/Down could be Posts/Comment
