You can't copyright a title. I'm starting to see why someone used to be a practicing lawyer.
I was too busy keeping people out of the slammer to worry about intellectual property rights.
Some people do the work required to protect the liberty and freedoms of the common man. Others write articles about it and call themselves doctor.
I use this joke all the time with a friend. He has a doctorate in psychology.
Does he go by "Dr."? Most economists have the good sense to just go by their names, like normal people do.
I have to admit there are degrees along the spectrum where I can see it being justified. Any of the hard sciences, engineering. Maybe even economics. Psychology? No
In my experience, insistence on the title varies inversely with the rigor of the discipline.
I think mathematicians and physicists are often so bizarrely intelligent that we want to label them.
