Ichiro is a legend. Ohtani is better than Ichiro.
If he stays healthy (big if) and can continue to pitch and hit for many more years he will likely be known as the greatest player ever.
Ohtani is a bigger deal. Look at the ratings on television. Non baseball fans want to see him.

Its not about him being a bigger deal or better. He is number 1 for other reasons. He broke the Japanese barrier that was set for the longest time in American baseball.

Dodgers opened their season playing the Padres in South Korea.
I think they played 2 games in March. Shohei was the main reason.

There were other players from Japan before him. I forget who but I know he wasn’t the first

Ichiro came to MLB fairly late in his career compared to other guys. He was amazing but not on Ohtani level.
reply
Time will tell.

I havent really watched baseball enough to know who is better. I just know Ichiro is famous. There was Kawasaki. And Ohtani. But Ichiro will forever be #1.
reply
I think Ohtani has surpassed Ichiro's popularity in both Japan and the rest of the world.
reply
Im sure he has. But when I was introduced to baseball, it was Ichiro. Ohtani may become the best, but he will never win as many gold gloves.
