What kind of car did you take? I know they have a big 4x4 community out there.

That's a tough question, it's been 10 years. I think it could have been considered a SUV and it might have been from Toyota.

A toyota broke down on you? Land cruiser?

No, while searching for the model I read here that a Landcruiser is apparently the "holy grail" of backpacker cars in Australia so I think it was definitely not it but very similar shape.
I also found this story from the same blog and that reminded me how I also almost rolled my car in Australia lol.

Land cruisers are pretty indestructible. Maybe a rav4, surf, hilux or 4runner?

Land cruisers are pretty indestructible.
We actually broke our car two times: the first time, we drove into too deep sand without enough clearance so the gearbox died a few days after and had to be renewed for $5k. That was pretty dumb since everyone even warned us to not do that but we really wanted to fuck around and find out, lol.
The second time I was fucking around on a roundabout at night and I must have steered too hard while driving too fast so the power steering hose broke. There was a lot of smoke initially though which made it look pretty bad.
That thing only needed a hose but there was no such hose available anywhere and especially not over Christmas so I had to sell it to the family and return to Germany after it was clear I wouldn't be able to continue the trip anytime soon.
Maybe a rav4, surf, hilux or 4runner?
No, I looked at the pictures, they don't look like the one I had. Maybe it wasn't a Toyota.

Wow... You must have lost quite a bit of money on that trip. You had to sell the car for cheap, too?
