I recently released a new guide for stackers to attach their node or wallet directly to SN using the NWC connection via @Alby Hub.
I feel this is the most private and anonymous connection SN is currently offering, and I want to validate it as I'm lacking some knowledge on NWC nuts and bolts.
  • Is the key generation encrypting some LN node or wallet details?
  • Is maybe the nostr pubkey disclosed somehow in the keys?
  • How you'd compare NWC with other node or wallet attachment options from a privacy perspective?
  • Which wallet do you currently have attached and why?
I like you guides regarding how you can connect SN with external wallets. very helpful.
Which wallet do you currently have attached and why?
I am a "cowboy credits maximalist" and I have my reasons. Is nice that SN offer the option to connect an external funding source, but let's not make from this a crazy-mania with "everything self-custodial". Sometimes, some "cowboy credits" are good to have and works better (especially in SN case).
If a custody is well done, there's nothing wrong with it. People must remember my old guide about splitting your total BTC stash in 3 levels: hold, cache, spending. Also spread your each level in multiple wallets, not just one.
And for your delight @supratic here is another meme:

Legendary meme, same as your guide. That's portfolio diversification to me!
I should not have place that question here... there're already few pools for that. annyway! Cowboy credits? Do you mean you use the sats you receive here in SN only inside SN? or do cowboys actually get SN credits apart the usual sats? Let's bring that conversation out here!
My doubts are more about NWC privacy, trying to understand if is 100% private as I guess or not.

Yes, I do not use any external sats/wallets with SN. I explained why in a post when was introduced this concept of "link your external wallet to SN". Is more about the friction is creating, not about the custody or not.
For me personally a 100k sats limit in SN account is just fine. I usually zap back quite a lot (but wisely) or use the sats paying to onboard more people into BTC. Yes, I pay from SN account LN invoices to people that I consider they worth onboarding.
Also SN is good to "coinjoin" your sats if you know how to do it. A perfect decoy that many people under estimate it.
About the NWC privacy details, I really do not know so much technicalities to answer that. I will let other experts to answer. What I know is that I do not like to use personal LN nodes in public places, whatever link would have. You see people took this "self-custody" mania to other limits but forgor one simple thing: the best way to hide is not on the top of the mountain, but among many many many other pseudonyms that cannot be distinguished... which one is which.
Yes, self-custody is a MUST for Bitcoin, but with your hold stash, not with regular spending. Especially with SN case, where you zap and be zapped every fucking minute. That will be a huge exposure of your private node...
People will remember my words... when the time will come.

Ok we are getting there! NWC and private node... does it make sense?

Keep in mind that even that is private, having so many back and forth payments, especially through few LSP, it could also trigger some "patterns". Not all LSP or routing nodes are "good guys".... choose wisely and learn better how to use LN with public and private nodes.
LOL maybe I should write a detailed guide about this. I wrote some in the past, but I do not like to give too many details in public about these aspects. I just want to show people the path. People still underestimate the power of LN... You have so many options and tools nowadays. Just using a single damn LN wallet is stupid.
reply
Gotcha, the nostr relay works as LSP and keep the transactions records.
Now I see why cowboy credits are valuable 🤣

We all know that Car is a CIA agent, k00b is NSA guy and ek is BND...
So... opening a LN channel directly to SN node, with your private node and using it back and forth for zapping posts on SN, is not making that a public information?
Instead... use decoy custodial (disposable) wallets to deposit or withdraw from SN (if is necessary) and you will not link your private nodes with that...
just saying, mastering lightning is not easy, but when you know how to do it, is really powerful.

When it comes to Alby hub and NWC, I don’t see any options to select relay(s), so I assume Alby’s relay is the only one used. Does this cause anyone with more knowledge of NWC any privacy concerns?
reply
correct, maybe the right way will be to broadcast transactions across through a randomly selected relay from the list attached to the npub?
