The announcement of Apple Intelligence was the final straw that made me jump on Graphene.
I don't care how nice it is. I don't trust AI on something as all-encompassing as a phone.

It is easy to use. You decide for yourself about the privacy/convenience trade-off. For me, I had mostly stopped using Google products before I made the switch. I never used apple. You can use Google products if you want to, and you can "sandbox" those apps into its own user profile. I don't do that. I also don't use social media other than nostr, nor do I use banking apps or fintech apps like venmo. That's my preference. You can use whichever apps you like, but it seems pointless to me to go through the trouble of installing a more secure OS and then surrendering privacy anyway.

I dont use apple either.
Their products really bother me.
Especially as I watched people I know having to upgrade and buy the next model.
It might be time for me to start making the switch.
There are other apps you can use to go online and stuff, right?

Oh sure. Everything is available to you. You can download APKs of apps. I use either obtainium or @franzap's zap store so that my apps can be easily updated without me having to constantly check.

Obtainium is the shit. Learned about it on Jupiter Broadcasting's Linux Unplugged as one of their picks. Once you've got things situated it's dead simple to use and, effectively, you become your own curated app store.

Only certain Pixels are compatible with GrapheneOS. You can peek at their releases page here to confirm which do and which do not work with the current active version of GrapheneOS. As with any mobile OS, the newer the device the longer the support.

It seems clear to me that GrapheneOS appears to be the gold standard, or perhaps I should say bitcoin standard, of privacy and digital hygiene smartphone OS'ses. That is what I've concluded from listening to the people I consider to be knowledgeable.
What are some important differences with LineageOS?

I would recommend checking out the Graphene website. Biggest is Graphene doesn't work on as many phones and Graphene has the ability to lock the bootloader. Big security win.

Once they can manage to implement some sort of tap to pay solution, I'll switch back to Pixel to use GrapheneOS. Until then, I can't even entertain that idea, unfortunately. That's one of the creature comforts I'm not willing to part with.
