I have spent over 7 years working abroad. Over that period of time, I have found myself in countless occasions sending money backwards and forwards through different banks. As you are well aware, this means fees and long periods of time (up to a week ) to receive the money. In addition to this, you need to consider the currency exchange and how much premium the bank charges for transferring/receiving funds in a different currency.
A couple of days ago, @NFLsurvivor2024 posted the results after week 3 at NFL. As some of you may be aware, we are participating in a pool. Most of stackers are doing poorly and, if you fail with your predictions, you get eliminated. However, stackers can rebuy once if they are happy to continue playing a bit longer.
Recently, sybil fees have been changed and @NFLsurvivor2024 suggested to pay the rebuy option through a lightning invoice. I requested the rebuy option and, shortly after, I received the invoice in the comments. Only had to scan it with my wallet in Spain and sent the sats to someone in Canada.
In just literally a few seconds, I had the confirmation from his side that the payment was received and I was in again.
No fees, no long delays to receive the transaction, no currency exchange, no banks. Just p2p transaction.
Bitcoin fixes this!!
I know, its nice. Until you send it to the wrong place.

It's called personal responsibility. The price of freedom.

Yes, but it may happen in a bank too.

But with a bank it is insured and usually they can pull it back. Also, if they error usually they own up to it.

When wire transfers go wrong, they can't always be fixed.

Usually if the bank makes an error, then they will fix it. If you make the error, then it is up to the bank.

I recall this being fairly nerve-wracking when we were buying our house. Pretty similar to making a similar sized bitcoin transfer.

Good little article! Quite motivating. I also want to use it more. Maybe today I set up Albyhub with Darth's instructions.

Ideally, your parents would have the option of receiving the SATs directly and then being able to use them. But I'm sure that it can't be because of their age, if it's a problem for young people. But I totally agree with you that the use of the lightning network is great.
Where I live there are 2 payment gateways, which the government and banking institutions constantly boast about. It turns out that on one occasion I went to pay the internet connection bill for the house, besides being the slowest in the world, I tried it with the gateway created by the telephone company to take advantage of the 10% discount; the result was that IT DID NOT WORK.
I used the other one, 4% discount but oh well, there it goes, I checked and it deducted from my magnetic card, but it didn't send me a confirmation message, it's not unusual because it happens often. But I told my wife, okay, I paid.
On the 5th of the following month I had no internet at home, I went to the telephone company, one of their branches near my house, they told me that I had not paid and they disabled the service, I showed the discounts on the card and the concepts, but nothing, for the head office. I arrived, anyway, their comment was: "that gateway always giving problems"
I had to re-contract the service, with all the expenses. I wrote to the gateway support, they NEVER responded. I reported them on X, Facebook, and even on the mother of tomatoes.
The following month a deposit arrived for the 1000 CUP that corresponded, I published on X that the deposit had finally arrived in the internet account. THEN THE GATEWAY RESPONDS SAYING "WE ARE GLAD THAT YOUR PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED"
Tell me something. In my case I received the deposit, others NOTHING AT ALL.

I do not agree with what they say in the comments ... Personally, I have been out of my country for 7 years and for economic reasons I have not been able to bring my parents to live with me ... I must send them money or remittances ... first I must deposit to a person trusting in their good will that they do not keep my money ... and then they make the transfer and if I do it for example in the afternoon it arrives the next day ... something that with sats would be totally different would be fast and efficient !! but unfortunately in my parents' location there is almost no internet signal and no matter how much I have explained to them how to use lithing and their wallets .. my parents still have a hard time understanding this technology .. I have to continue depending on someone else and pay additional fees to send for their food 🤦

I hope that this situation changes for your family sooner or later. It is definitely a game changer, so that people can transfer funds without losing them to middlemen.

Yes, I totally agree 🙂👍
