I've been messing around with Notebook LM. Thought I would test it out on the Stacker News Newsletter. I've been hearing some funny and very poor productions from this AI tool lately so I thought it might be fun to check it out.
I decided to feed it SN Saturday Newsletter 9/28/24 and see how it did. As usual this thing is very formulaic and can make be laugh and cringe but it did surprisingly well IMO. But, I don't see this replacing any podcasts I listen to. Now, I can see it replacing a lot of crap that I don't listen to. But honestly that says more about how much bad media content there is on the web.
What do you think?
Converted it to a MP3 file so it should just play in most browsers without a download.

We just need to get models of your voices and you too could sound this predictable :)

I just tried making an image with the AI generator, it didnt understand my very specific commands, and made a blurry picture instead. AI still has a long ways to go.
reply
Yeah... it does and we really don't know how practical it is yet because we aren't seeing the real costs of these tools. Still in the fiat funding bubble. I imagine based on what I've heard that these things are not profitable.
That said, many things aren't profitable at first.

I keep seeing articles saying they use ai to trade and make thousands of dollars. I dont know how much I actually trust that, though.
reply
Yeah, not for me.
reply
Can you imagine trusting AI with a stack of money?
I'm already wasting too much time on this already but I have made a few more.
Honestly, its kinda scary how much this reminds me of local radio DJs these days. Not that I'm concerned about AI, but that the "personalities" are so generic on radio.

it weirdly sounds more interesting than us
reply
Nah, not to me.
reply
@grayruby, maybe you can just use this for a ~Stacker_Sports pod, but then listeners wouldn't be subjected to our personalities.

Coupled with different voices we will see totally bot based podcasts. And many will like them :)

I think it confused Satlantis with Predyx but pretty cool!

I made one of my Drupal newsletter and while I was impressed with how well it did, it totally made up some things that do not exist. The other thing that cracked me up is how the male voice said an article saved him an hour working on a caching issue...
Its just too funny.

It's basically AI shilling Stacker News
reply
I think I came up with a name for this thing...
Between Two Bots
Or
Between Two Fakes

Its good at shilling. I've learned that much. Its really not to bad with bitcoin stuff. That might be because it seems to focus on what you feed it.

Thanks for paving the way. Have wanted to check the Notebook LM out, and will start with your podcast

Ya know and Yeah go a long way towards providing that genuine podcast feel. Ya know?

That was fun to listen to. Maybe I'll mess around with one of my newsletters.
reply
Btw, if you convert them from wav files to mp3s the files are more likely to be playable in the browser.

I was playing one of these for my son who is a teen and he immediately figured out it was AI.
