At the beginning of the season I placed a $2 bet on Fred Warner for DPOY. It pays $152. Still a lot of season left and he got a bit banged up last game but so far in my opinion he has been the best defensive player in football. If not the best player period.
But we will see. DPOY has become an edge rusher award but if a Linebacker is going to win, it will be Fred.
If a few more of the elite edge rushers get injured, he'll have a decent shot.
Hutchinson is great but he sucks against the run. I don’t think that will matter if he gets 20 sacks though.
That's why I'm so insistent about Crosby being better than most of the elite edge rushers. He plays every snap, unlike many of these guys who are specialists and need another guy to play defense for them on running downs.

Yeah, my skepticism of Bosa is entirely health related.
He had the one season where he missed almost the entire year due to ACL tear, otherwise he hasn’t missed more than 1 game any other year. Hopefully that continues.

Joey has definitely been more injury plagued. 2020 was brutal for the 49ers. Coming off the super bowl they lost a bunch of their starters to major injuries and had a terrible season. The way this season started with injuries reminds me of that year but fortunately thus far other than Hargrave none of the injuries seem to be season ending. Although CMC will probably miss a few more weeks and come back after the bye.
Also, 49ers depth has been better than I thought it was.

Agree. Neither has been as good as Fred Warner so far but both are more likely to get the award because it has become an award for sacks.
