It's here! @grayruby and I got our first episode out. Enjoy a double length first episode.

We had some technical difficulties getting the first episode up. Normally, it'll be on Stacker News faster.

Let us know what you want to hear us talk about or any other feedback.

Mentioned in the episode:

I didn't get a chance to give it a full listen until this morning. I honestly had no idea what to expect. I am not blowing smoke up your asses (old man expression) when I say you two were great right out of the box. I listen to a lot of podcasts, mostly bitcoin and financial. I'm not as focused on sports as I once was, but I still check in on Islanders podcasts occasionally. The two of you seemed like old pros. You had great chemistry, particularly when you got comfortable and were just shooting the shit about sports. That's what makes a good podcast, IMO. Real conversation.

I think you'll have to decide the right mix for yourself regarding sports/bitcoin/SN, but judging from episode one you had a nice balance.

I hope you stay motivated and work on keeping this going. You both have a lot of potential.

reply

Thanks Siggy.

I don’t think we’re going to talk about Bitcoin much more than other sports pods talk about dollars, but it will be our unit of account.

It will be pretty much all sports, with ~Stacker_Sports being our main source for content.

reply

Good idea. I remember listening a lot to the podcast "Linux Unplugged" on fountain about a year and a half ago. Those guys knew nothing about bitcoin, but they gradually talked more and more about getting zapped on fountain, and soon they discovered bitcoin through those zaps.

reply

For the time being, I'm sure our audience knows just as much about bitcoin as we do. They don't need to hear us try to explain it to them, but they might not be aware of the sports related opportunities to earn some sats that we're going to talk about.

reply

Thanks Siggy. Agreed. I think it got better when we were just having a conversation about sports like we would here on SN rather than trying to talk about something specifically.

reply

Congratulations and wish you the best! I'm not a podcast guy but I'll set it up in my car if I can.

reply

This one went pretty long, but we're aiming for more commute length episodes.

reply

A big big thumbs up to you guys! It was quite entertaining, engaging, and energetic. I love it.

reply
reply

This is fantastic! I'm proud of you two. I just listened to snippets. I have to listen to the whole thing.

reply

Thanks Siggy. Hopefully it gets a bit better with each episode.

reply

It's a great idea. As it grows as a freestanding podcast, it will also grow the territory and SN.

reply

That’s the hope.

reply

Thanks, that reminds me that we should chop up some fountain clips.

reply

Awesome! NBA season opening soon, looking forward to more basketball discussions in future episodes.

reply

Do you want to join us for an NBA season preview episode?

reply

I'm not a good talker, so I'll just remain a listener and chime in through posts and comments. Thank you very much for the invite though.

reply

Well we look forward to your written thoughts on the upcoming season and of course appreciate you taking the time to listen.

reply

This is really fantastic. Both of you are amazing. I love it. Good job guys!

reply

Undisciplined is like a pro. I am just trying not to make too much of a fool of myself. Haha. Thanks for the kind words. Hopefully it gets a bit better every episode.

reply

No, you are doing great in this episode. I will wait for the next one. Yes no doubt @Undisciplined is doing like a pro.

reply

After today, we are both seasoned professionals. I didn't expect such a nice response right out of the gate.

reply

Yes, both of you were doing it like professionals.

reply
reply

Enjoyed the pod! Just gotta fix the audio. Some cool intro music would be nice. But not bad for the first episode!

reply

Thanks!

For the time being, intro music is beyond our technical proficiency (unless @grayruby wants to play it live).

reply

I was going to ask you about this. Does clean feed offer any ability to upload another audio file? We can definitely find some music to use.

reply

Not on the free version. We can start searching for other options. I know there are better ones: i.e. more advanced features.

reply

Fantastic!

I think this Poadcast is gonna start a new era of more stackers doing Podcasts. I'm already thinking to start one in Hindi for general folks here. There are, I think, still many many people who'll never understand Bitcoin or Stacker News unless they get informed in local language. YouTube and podcasts are filled with price related works but something like you did is rare.

Btw, You forgot to mention the best part here, the fun you had while talking about Cricket pool.

reply

I look forward to the Hindi spinoff.

You’re right that we should have made it clear how much fun we had with the cricket pool.

If you do another one, I promise it will get a lot of love from us.

reply

Thanks The Cricket pool is making a come back the next month. :)

reply
reply

@grayruby led the way on territories. It would be fitting for him to lead the way on SN podcasts, as well.

reply

What a fantastic surprise I had this morning when I opened SN! I went straight to Fountain and already following you. Listened to the first episode while completing my early walk.
Congrats to both of you! It sounds great!! I hope to keep learning about football , MLB, NBA and so on

reply

Thanks so much.

reply

Thanks. Another winning week for you in the survivor pool. Could it be our euro football expert will win the American football pool?

reply
Another winning week for you in the survivor pool

It's crazy, though it's becoming more difficult. Yesterday's match was a struggle, only could follow it in the red zone.

Could it be our euro football expert will win the American football pool?

Hahaha! I would consider it the beginner's luck. It's unbelievable I have not been eliminated yet. The good thing is that I am enjoying it and watching the NFL which I have never done before. Still struggling with players though, as I don't know them well.

reply

Congrats guys!!

reply

Thanks, Car.

reply

Thank you sir.

reply

I swear I know the Chiefs tight end is Jason Kelce. I mean Mama Kelce. I mean Taylor Swift.

Kittle is just so great, I can’t stop thinking about him.

Haha

p.s- @Undisciplined missed his calling not being a late night DJ. Great radio voice and poise. He is the captain. I am just along for the ride.

reply

I thought I was a little stilted on the open, but it got more natural as we went on.

You were right about recording on Mondays being a bad idea. If I had to open tomorrow, the whole episode would just be a profanity filled incoherent tirade.

reply

It started slow. I should have thought more about what to say about the territory and SN. I thought you did a good job cleaning up for me and then things started to flow a bit better after that.

reply

Nice, just gave it a follow and will tune in!

reply

Pretty cool, good pilot episode. Volume was too low though

reply

Thanks.

A little peak behind the curtain: we're recording right after putting our little kids to bed. Eventually, we'll probably want to find a time during the day to record so we can be a little louder.

reply

Thanks. Hopefully it will improve with each episode.

reply

I don't doubt that it will. I'm here for the ride 🤙

reply

It sucks that I can't zap on Fountain through the browser.

reply

I think the browser version is a work in progress. When I started using fountain, I don't think you could even play the episodes on a browser.

reply

Nice.

reply

Great Stacker Sports Pod! Congrats to both @Undisciplined and @grayruby!

reply
reply

Thanks. Hopefully we can make it a bit better with each episode.

  • Hosts Undisciplined and Gray Ruby introduce the first episode of the Stacker Sports Podcast, associated with Stacker News, a Bitcoin-adjacent platform created by Kube.
  • Stacker News allows value-for-value interactions using "sats" (smallest denomination of Bitcoin), functioning like a Reddit where users can earn spendable currency for posts and comments.
  • Gray Ruby, the creator of the Stacker Sports territory, started it after managing a sports meta takeover on Stacker News for six months. The podcast aims to expand the reach of the sports territory and generate broader interest in Stacker News.

Purpose of the Podcast:

  • The podcast seeks to integrate Bitcoin into broader digital infrastructure by discussing sports, a popular topic, alongside Bitcoin-related content.
  • Both hosts aim to contribute to the Stacker News ecosystem by creating engaging content, despite not being developers, to attract and retain a diverse audience interested in sports, arts, and other topics.

Sports Discussion and Community Engagement:

  • The hosts discuss current sports topics, focusing primarily on the NFL, with Gray Ruby highlighting the San Francisco 49ers’ critical game and emotional fan reactions. The 49ers’ season parallels the disappointing 2020 season post-Super Bowl loss.
  • They mention community posts on Stacker Sports, including a popular one about a disastrous NFL trade involving the Carolina Panthers trading up for Bryce Young, missing out on talents like CJ Stroud and Caleb Williams.
  • MLB playoffs are also a focus, with excitement around the New York Mets’ performance and fan engagement in a playoff pick’em challenge.
  • Upcoming NBA season previews and ongoing NHL season are noted as exciting times for sports fans.

Stacker Sports Community and Contests:

  • The podcast highlights the active Stacker Sports community, mentioning fans of struggling teams (Jets, Raiders, Lions, Vikings, Chargers) and their engagement through posts and contests.
  • Various contests are discussed, including the weekly NFL pick’em challenge (free to join with 2000 sats prize), MLB playoff pick’em challenge, NFL survivor pool (10k sats buy-in with a large prize pot), and an NBA season prediction challenge.
  • Community game day threads on Stacker Sports allow real-time discussion of games, enhancing engagement.

Personal Sports Interests and Betting:

  • The hosts share personal sports interests, with Gray Ruby following the 49ers and MLB playoffs, and Undisciplined focusing on the Raiders and NFL.
  • They discuss fantasy football matchups within the Stacker Sports league and betting strategies, including parlays on platforms like FanDuel and Nitro Betting, with a goal to convert profits into Bitcoin.

Notable Sports Stories:

  • Key stories include the potential trade of Davante Adams from the Raiders, the firing of Jets coach Robert Saleh, and high-profile games like the Commanders vs. Ravens and Packers vs. Cardinals.
  • Historical sports anecdotes, such as Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders as dual-sport athletes, are shared, questioning if such feats are possible in today’s high-stakes sports environment.

Conclusion:

  • The episode runs longer than planned due to engaging tangents, covering over an hour of content.
  • The hosts invite listeners to join Stacker Sports on Stacker News, engage in discussions, and provide feedback for future episodes, promising to return next week.
reply

Wow! The robots find our tangents "engaging".

reply

Thank you Mr Roboto!

reply

Will give it a listen later congrats guys!
