It's week 2 of Mock Draft Monday and the Raiders continue climbing the draft board. Now picking 6th and still needing to play NO, while having the tie-breaker with Carolina, there's a great chance of getting into the top three.
The Raiders O-Line was obliterated this week. Ted Hendricks had a career day lined up against our third string left tackle. The silver lining is that JPJ was moved to center and it's clearly the right place for him.
That all indicates that for approximately the 17th year in a row, the Raiders primary draft needs are QB, OT, and Guard. They also need to improve the WR and RB rooms. The defense is fine, but could also use upgrades at every level.
Here we go: 6th Pick: QB Cam Ward 37th Pick: IOL Jonah Savaiinaea 68th Pick: LB Danny Stutsman 74th Pick: OT Marcus Mbow 104th Pick: DT Jordan Burch 140th Pick: WR Bru McCoy 177th Pick: RB Jo'Quavious Marks 212th Pick: CB Cobee Bryant 215th Pick: QB Conner Weigman 222nd Pick: S Shilo Sanders
Two in a row with Cobee Bryant going 212th.
I opted for the 49ers strategy of taking the QB we want with our first pick, but then taking another one later on day 3. The QB room has three seats in it, so I say bring in two QB's every year until we find our franchise guy: AOC is a perfectly serviceable backup/bridge QB.
Cobee Bryant sounds like a winner. Jo'Quavious gets an honourable mention in the best name category.
I prefer this QB pick compared to your last one.

That's the value of picking higher. I'm worried this is the wrong year to be bad, though.
Next year we might be doing a tag-team of AOC and Ritter.

Wasting Crosby's prime years. Time to trade him to the 49ers.
reply
I'd consider a soccer style rental agreement: every year the 49ers keep Crosby, the Raiders get their first round pick. Then we bring him home when the roster is competitive.

I'm usually rooting for the 49ers anyway and I'd love Crosby to get a taste of success. I'd also love to see him sack Mahomes in the Super Bowl.

Won't be this year. No 3peat and I am standing by it. I think the Ravens or Bills will be the AFC representative in the SB.
Right now the Lions look great and need to be favourites in NFC but I wonder if they are peaking too early. Other than Hutchinson they have been suspiciously healthy. Hard to imagine that continues through the rest of the regular season and the playoffs especially as guys wear down late in the year after that ridiculously early bye they had.
Maybe they can mitigate some of that if they can keep winning and lock up the 1 seed a couple weeks before the end of the season. We will see.
reply
You'd think the Lions would be favored, but according to the prediction markets it's still the 49ers.
Where is this mock draft coming from?
How is it week 2?
reply
It's week 2 of me abandoning all hope for the current season and just running mock drafts to distract myself from thinking about the dreadful performance I witnessed the previous day.
reply
Is the distraction working?
reply
A little. Firing the Getsy and the other failing coaches helped more.
At least now there will be something new to get upset about.
