As I watched the results start to flow in last night I was amazed, to say the least. No one I have talked to over the last few weeks expected to see what we are seeing at the moment and we were even warned it could take until the middle of December for the races to all shake out. Well, that turned out not to be the case whatsoever.
First things first we got more insight into the individual who had soaked his clothing in flammable liquid and tried to walk into the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) with a blow torch and flare gun. While it was highly likely that he was going to attempt to light himself on fire we now know that yes he did intend to do that and had his manifesto with him. Supposedly his reasoning for doing this was the US policy in the Middle East so I think it is highly likely he is anti-Israel.
While I walked to work this morning it was almost like being in a library. DC was eerily quiet and there were not many people out at all. Throughout my day today, the halls have mostly been empty except for Capitol PD. I mean twice I went to the bathroom in the hallway and the lights had turned off because no one had been in there so long. The businesses that have boarded up multiple different places across the city have already called in crews to remove the boards so it looks like the city will open back up much sooner than I imagined.
