We're leaving Las Vegas this morning. I'm staring at the sphere, adorned with the map of the moon, with the backdrop of some mountains as the sun rises.

Itching to lose Vegas verisimilitude and explore the desert. First stop Hoover Dam. You can't drive over it anymore like I did as a teenager. Maybe a hike in the Arches of Utah or a stay in a Native American lodge on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. I have big plans. Maybe check out the Milky Way in Flagstaff or spot some UFOs outside Sedona.

Whether or not we accomplish all that in the short time allotted, at least we won't be in Vegas.

Maybe I did place these notes in the right territory. Fiat created all the empty extravagances we're leaving.

You can still drive, and can also walk over the Hoover Dam. There is just no more thru traffic allowed. In order to drive on the dam, you have to go through a security check point, where the guards were quite chill and didn't ask us much before letting us through.

There are also tours that you can join if you want to see inside the dam.

Sounds like an awesome trip so far. Looking forward to those beautiful nature photos. Thanks for sharing with us!

reply

Spot on! We just drove across.

reply

Did you join any tours?

reply

No. It was too long a wait. We're on a tight timeline. It was more impressive than I anticipated.

reply

Yes, the dam is indeed quite impressive and an amazing engineering feat.

It seems timing is always a limiting factor on trips. We didn't plan for time to join an inside tour last time we were there too. I'm thinking it would be really cool to see the size of the penstocks, generators, and turbines in person. Too bad.

reply

Did you do the bridge walk? I have a fear of heights, but I bet those views are incredible.

reply

Yes we did. Up on the bridge, you get a full view of the dam, the powerhouse, reservoir, downstream, the canyon, and surrounding mountains. You are correct, the views are indeed incredible.

How was the Eagles concert?

reply

Really extraordinary. The sound is amazing, and the Eagles are sticklers for good musicianship. They had a pretty big band. The harmonies were astounding. With the clarity that the venue provides, it's simple to pick out all the parts-bass lines, rhythm guitar. I'm not used to that in live venues. As Don Henley said, you can hear any mistakes clearly. I didn't notice any.

The songs were all imbedded in my consciousness. So many hits from the 70s and 80s

reply

That's great. The Eagles are one band that I have never seen that I regret having never seen.

reply

I'm not a contemporary country music guy, but Vince Gill brings a lot to the table. He can do everything. Joe Walsh is still Joe Walsh. Felder and Henley still sound great.

reply

He is really good with them.

reply

So nice of you sharing your trip. Is that real moon? It looks like real. I'm surprised. Seeing first time. I've seen much of vegas but this is different and surprising.

reply

The photo of that sphere simulating the moon looks spectacular. I'm looking forward to seeing the next photos from this trip, keep showing amazing places.

reply

Yes, that's not the real moon. It's called The Sphere. It's a technologically cutting edge theatre for music and graphics.

We saw a concert there last night. It has an extraordinary sound system.

I think there will be a bitcoin conference held there next year, though I could be wrong.

reply

It must have been an incredible experience, being at a concert there.

Are you going to the conference?

reply

I don't think so. I don't enjoy that conference too much.

reply

I'll be honest with you, I don't even know what these conferences are about. I mean, obviously the topic is Bitcoin, but what I mean is, who organizes these conferences? What is the purpose? What do people gain by going there?

Here in Peru the closest thing to that was a very limited Binance conference

reply

Thanks. I hope to do just that.

Fiat created all the empty extravagances we're leaving.

Ha...a buddy of mine went to see U2 in the Sphere.....said Bud Lights were $25 each! Talk about empty fiat extravagances!

reply

I didn't realize they don't let people drive over the dam anymore. That's too bad.

reply

A friend told me they closed it permanently. I just read something which says it's permissable u see certain circumstances, so now aim not sure.

reply

Nice picks @siggy47! The images that the sphere shows are incredible

reply

Make sure to take some pictures of the dam!
I read that the concrete is still curing.
I wonder what the water level is?
