Interesting, here in Portugal and I think all over Europe, the air at the gas stations is free!
The bathrooms in Porto and Lisbon were not free when I was there. At least the air is.

yes, there are bathrooms in the street that you have to pay for. You could go to a cafe or restaurant and ask to use the toilet. It's free! Ahahah

One place in Lisbon didn't even have toilet seats! They didn't want anyone dropping a deuce.

In Eastern Europe, almost all toilets don't have seats. I've read that it's healthier!

I never sit on a public toilet or even another person's John but it's nice when the seat prevents the splash.
On a side note the toilets that use less water are hilarious. You end up flushing multiple times just to make the matter disappear.

Depends upon where you go in South Asia, there are no seats because you don’t sit to do your business, you squat. This goes for many parts of Southeast and East Asia, too. You might have noticed that people do a lot of “hunkering down” there. Other places don’t have the knees for it, anymore.

In Uzbekistan you can find a hole in the floor or a toilet is a crap shoot.

This example of seatless in Portugal, Lisbon was an anomaly.
