One of the greatest questions of science centers on how life seemingly formed from lifeless molecules. This has led researchers to do things like investigate how rain might have helped form membranes of protocells and search for life’s Last Universal Common Ancestor (LUCA). In keeping with the tradition of this “where do we come from” scientific investigation, Dutch researchers are trying to synthetically reconstruct the basic building blocks of cells.
