MLB Hot Stove Update

The first major signing of the MLB offseason has taken place as the reigning World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers have signed two time CY Young award winning starting pitcher Blake Snell.

Contract will be for 5 years and 182M. Contract said to include some deferred money.

My take: Good signing for the Dodgers with Walker Buehler likely leaving in free agency and some questions around the health of the rotation, but that is a hefty price to pay for a guy who can be elite but at times struggles with command and often can't get out of the 5th inning. I can only imagine what Corbin Burnes will get.

It's a good signing, but the big question for me is whether the second half Snell had was the norm or the exception. Guess we'll see.

Snell is inconsistent. I can't believe they gave him this much money. I know they are analytics driven and don't really want their starters going deep in games but that's a lot to pay for a guy that will likely only give you 4-5 innings per start.

I am guessing Burnes wants more or a longer term deal, otherwise why not sign him instead.

Yeah I zapped my post. I am not ashamed to admit it. There are 3k sats left from the NFL Survivor pool in that account from the zaps and rewards it accumulated during the pool. That's my remuneration for 12 weeks of toil.

I don't think so because that goes to the pot of the pool. Whenever we have zap the pot pools I usually zap every post 210 sats to help build up the prize pool.

My only issue with this signing is a further highlight of the Dodgers circumventing the MLB caps. I’d honestly be fine if they signed Walker or their own talent to those kinda deals but poaching the others is just insane. I get they defer the deals but there has to be a bigger hit up front to even the scales for everyone.

I am guessing at some point MLB will address the deferrals and allow teams to do it but have rules about how it can be used to circumvent the luxury tax.

182 Million for 5 years!

Comparing this to IPL amount for 45 days signing, it seems IPL is nowhere close to MLB.

The highest paid is getting only $3 million for 1 season.
