We have something local doing the same sort of thing, but specializing in furniture. They take it to their warehouse and advertise in the community to anyone that wants to come and take some away. A lot of people just starting out get good furniture that way.
Recycling good stuff is a good business model, especially when you are taking it away for a fee, from people that do not want it.
I have seen people throw away so much stuff that’s still has more life to it and it’s a shame if there are people going without when others are dumping stuff

When I was new to Japan and flat broke, I needed some things I could not afford. They had a special day for getting rid of unwanted large items. People were throwing away good stuff. I got a refrigerator, small boom box, futons and a bicycle in one trip. I moved them into my apartment right away and was pretty much set. I afterward went out a couple more times and completely furnished my apartment with what I found, for free. Yes, people do throw away good stuff, usually because they are updating something.

It made a huge difference in the quality of my life. Without it, I would have been living in a bare apartment, without even a refrigerator for what little food I had. I was very thankful that people were discarding good stuff!
