You don't know if they're actually a new person. Save your milk for when they do something valuable.
I only realised that I can earn zaps with my bio after I filled that in 1-1.5 years after I started to use SN, lol

I was played?! Got milked by trixers?
Unbelievable. Where's DC when I need his comfort?
reply
There's been quite a few of them today actually...
reply
Yeah it's all the same dude probably.
reply
Have i been milked?! I gotta call my mom, she would be so proud.

I usually zap but I also like asking "how did you find SN"?
reply

Maybe only zap after they replied. That requires at least a little bit more effort and any effort scales bad for scammers.
reply
Thank you. I didn't really think about that.

Thks for the reminders :)

Damm dude! That certainly clarifies the surge in new users we are witnessing. And I was welcoming and zaping like dumb :(
reply
I always zap ONLY the new users bio that I know / invite or they post something really good before. As I explained here: #686524 I see many people jumping into "welcome" without even thinking. Most of new users will change their bio in the next days.

I'm not sure I understand. Do newly created bios show up as new threads or something? How would I unwittingly zap a bio scammer assmilker?
reply

New bios show up as posts, yes
reply
How many SATs does it take to to get milked?
reply
Thanks for the reminder. It seems it was a rain of new Stackers today. However I don't take any precautions zapping everyone of them 10 sats with a suggestion to read a series of introductory posts for SN.

This makes you a part of the assmilker problem because you’re enabling them

You can reply without a zap, no? Wait until they showed some more effort?
You could also put more effort into your greeting by actually engaging with what they wrote than simply replying with some copy-pasta. That would be showing them the way, not act like a bot like you do now.
reply
Hmm that I'll do but I don't really zap everyone as I said. I read their bios and only zap those who have been zapped and replied with welcoming comments. If someone seems like a shitcoiner or who doesn't have welcoming comments with good number of sats, I don't zap.
I thought a few sats will enable them to go ahead as they can't really post everywhere without sats. Or am I wrong?

What is it now?

Freebie posts and comments exist

Can I take my words back? I made this comment rather enthusiastically. When you commented, I again looked at my today's zaps and I found that I left a few. One was without any zaps and other mentioned "crypto enthusiast" in his bio.
Sorry, I'll amend this and will be careful next time.

Thanks for the warning. Since someone got me going on SN by zapping me heavily, i have been here. I have been trying to “pay it forward” but I was noticing a heavy influx of new names. I guess I will just hold my zapping for posts and comments, now.

You can switch off the zap feature in the BIOS. Everyone can write their bios, but they must be part of the profile info and not published as a post. This prevents bios from being zapped.
reply
When we go noncustodial we’ll make bios only be able to earn cowboy credits.

Very good idea! Seems like a lot of new people lately.

Any chance some guide to reconnect with my old stacker.news account with Blue Wallet? It gives an error.
