As our stacker Mets fans celebrate Steve Cohen spending an absurd amount of money on Juan Soto and start planning their parades, the rest of us non Mets fans must look towards the next dominoes to fall in MLB Free Agency and possibly the trade market.
The MLB Winter Meetings begin today so the rumour mill will likely be churning over the next few days with trade and FA talk.
Here is a few things I am keeping an eye on in the coming days/weeks:
Pitchers
- Roki Sasaki has officially been posted by his team in Japan. That means he has 45 days to talk to MLB clubs. Where will he sign?
- Where will free agent SP Corbin Burnes land? He is the best SP available this offseason.
- Will the White Sox trade their young all star SP Garrett Crochet?
- Will the Mariners trade veteran SP Luis Castillo or one of their other starting pitchers?
- Max Fried is probably the second best FA starter available after Burnes. Does he stay in Atlanta or go elsewhere?
Hitters
- Now that Soto has signed, what will teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers and Blue Jays that were in on him do for a back up plan?
- There isn't really another super star level hitter but there are a bunch of good hitters left on the market. It will be interesting to see how the markets for Alex Bregman, Anthony Santander, Pete Alonso, Teoscar Hernandez and Christian Walker shape up.
- Will the Blue Jays be able to extend Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or will he play out his final year of the contract and test free agency? (after seeing Soto's deal, I don't see any way he signs unless they overpay)
It will be fun to see how all of things play out of the coming days, weeks or months.
Sats for all,
GR
