Yes indeed. My wife is American and we lived part time in Canada and part time in the US for a few years but are in Canada full time for the past decade. At some point we would like to buy a property in the US and spend part of the year there.

I'm in Wisconsin, I've been up there a few times fishing. Everyone I met up there was extremely pleasant... they also finished their sentences with "eh?"
