I am guessing fiatjaf is sponsored open source developer. There is high probability that the software they have picked would become unmaintained otherwise.

they might be interested in hosted channels. HC are actually convenient from custodial point of view. Private and native to LN. Much better than chaumian e-cash which demands additional heterogeneous network or separate protocols.
