The kid's sick this morning and we're awaiting our visiting relatives, so this is an unusually quiet and contemplative Christmas morning.
I've been reflecting on how I've changed since finding Stacker News and becoming a bitcoiner (in that order).
The change really struck me as I was looking through my podcast subscriptions for something to listen to. None of the current-events-focused establishment-critiquing pods appealed to me. I'm kind of over it.
Bitcoin has given me the ability to focus on the positive. We're on the building side. We're on the winning side. We're on the side that's saving the world from all the bad things being described in my podcast feed.
Stacker News has given me direct access to people who are every bit as interesting as those podcast hosts. Now, I can talk to interesting people, rather than just receiving their wisdoms.
I have every confidence that this trend will persist next year and I hope to see you all there.
Stay humble. Stack sats.
Tick-tock. Next block.

In my specific case I can't have a timeline of what happened first, whether it was being a Bitcoiner or starting on Stacker News, but I think it was in that order as if it were a birth of twins.
I entered the rabbit hole with @Cuba_BTC, and almost immediately I met SN thanks to @criptopanas. I've been walking down this beautiful rabbit hole. Bitcoin has taught me in a few months, what I hadn't even heard about in 3n years. Stacker News is my Bitcoin center, where I can listen and talk about Bitcoin.
Thanks Bitcoin Thanks Stacker News

I know what you mean. For me it was a pretty rapid succession, but I know SN preceded me really "getting it" when it came to bitcoin.
I was definitely prepared to receive the good word, as it were.
reply
interesting you found SN before getting into bitcoin, how did you stumble into stacker world?
reply
I heard about Fountain on the Tom Woods Show. I don't remember if that was from a guest or an ad.
Then, shortly after I started using Fountain, I heard an ad for Stacker News: "Like Reddit, but with bitcoin." (paraphrase)
Reddit was my favorite platform, before I gave up on all the Big Tech sites, so I was eager to check out a Reddit alternative.

I'm very new to Bitcoin but learning very fast. I've learnt that Bitcoin is the future of money and it will make us all sovereign individuals.
I wish a speedy recovery to the kid.
reply
Thanks.
Yeah, once you fall into the rabbit hole, it's a very fast journey.

You became a bitcoiner after SN?
reply
Sure did!
At least in any sense of the word that we would recognize

Good Job! I guess I am kinda in the same boat - this year Bitcoin gave me the ability to focus on the positive too. I've been hodling Bitcoin for a while, but it was just this year I decided to focus entirely on Bitcoin. Which meant refusing to read anything related to shitcoins, or 'crypto' related and cleansing all of my feeds anything 'crypto' related. Which has almost been impossible, but I think I am there.
Along the way I found Stacker News, fountain and Nostr. Buying and Hodling Bitcoin in lightning wallets has removed any barriers that were preventing me from going all in on Bitcoin.

That's awesome!
Occasionally, you'll see posts on here about the "Zen of..." that are about exactly what you're talking about. There's so much unnecessary clutter occupying our attention.
For whatever reason, bitcoin seems to help declutter our minds.

To be precise Bitcoin gave a new and better world. Before Bitcoin or before SN, I was not the same as I'm today. So glad to know that SN is same in your and my journey as Bitcoiners.

Great job it changes everyone positive who lets them!

I am not sure who it was, but a wise man once said "Bitcoin is a bridge from where you are in life and where you want to be"
Damn that dude is smart.
I think bitcoin breaks people's brains one way or another. Either in a positive way where you see a world of opportunity and the way things can be or in a negative way where you cling to the paradigm you have always known and become a naysayer and hater.
Too bad the little one is sick on Christmas. Bad luck. My little one is bouncing off the walls as she got an Ipad for Christmas (my wife got a good deal through work). Now this afternoon we head over to my parents place for round 2 of spoiling.

round 2 of spoiling
Awesome! We did get a round in last night. We went to my parents' place, so she could open some presents there.
"Bitcoin is a bridge from where you are in life and where you want to be"
Whoever that was should probably have a podcast to share all his wisdoms.

Maybe a pod about sports or something not too serious. Wouldn't want them to blow too many minds.
We have a tradition of opening our presents on Christmas eve so the kids can face time with my wife's family for the gifts they sent. So we clean out under our tree first and then go to my parents for Christmas dinner on Christmas day and clean out under their tree beforehand.
My daughter isn't really into the Santa thing. Probably because she has a brother who is 8 years older than her and maybe aside from her first Christmas he is a non believer. However when my son was young we had to make up convoluted stories about Santa only being able to drop presents off at Grandma and Grandpa's house so that's why all your presents on Christmas eve are from family but everything you get on Christmas day is from Santa. Haha, glad we don't have to do that again.

This is how you know It’s So Early!
One day we won’t be special for “getting” Bitcoin.
Till then we’ll enjoy the true yield of Bitcoin: the stackers we meet along the way

I'm new to bitcoin this year too. It's really changed my outlook on money and the future in general. I've massively reduced the amount of wasteful spending that I do.
reply
That's great!
I was always fairly frugal, but even my money habits have changed. I'm certainly a much more enthusiastic saver, now.

Seems like everyone has a runny nose this christmas. You became a Stacker before a bitcoiner? I thought it was the other way around, bitcoiners usually come to SN.
reply
I found Stacker News via an ad they were running on Fountain. I was really into finding free speech alternatives to Big Tech platforms.
I liked the idea of tokenizing activity on platforms, but I didn't understand enough to be bitcoin only.

Dope story! Right it up for us...?
