Terrible article.
I use Linux as my daily driver, everything works. I also game on it, both old and modern titles, via Wine/Bottles/Steam(Proton). I've never had hardware compatibility issues.
You may not be able to run Adobe Photoshop or certain online games due spyware anti-cheat (that by the way don't stop cheaters), but everything else works.
Yes, I've only used Linux since 1998. Currently I'm running Linux Mint on everything I've got. When I buy a new laptop I don't even boot into Windows. I wipe the drive and install Linux. If the laptop is really new sound might not work for a month or so but then the drivers catch up and everything works.

i can't see myself ever going back to Windows, it's so shit after you experienced Linux for some weeks.
i haven't tried Linux Mint tho, i love GNOME
